Iran says it has full control of Gulf and U.S. navy does not belong there

Iran has full control of the Gulf, and the U.S. Navy does not belong there, the head of the navy of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Alireza Tangsiri, said on Monday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

The remarks come at a time when Tehran has suggested that it could take military action in the Gulf to block oil exports of other regional countries in retaliation for U.S. sanctions intended to halt its oil sales. Washington maintains a fleet in the Gulf which protects oil shipping routes.

Tangsiri said Iran had full control of both the Gulf itself and the Strait of Hormuz that leads into it. Closing off the strait would be the most direct way of blocking shipping.

Closing off the strait would be the most direct way of blocking shipping bringing about regime change in Iran. I'm sure Saudi Arabia would be glad to help.

China gets away with that crap because hey have the world’s biggest army/navy, and because it’s out in the back of beyond.

Iran... wise up... you’ll never be allowed to block the Strait of Hormuz. Trying to do so will only start very vicious war you can’t win and will deeply regret.

Closing off the straight will also massively affect oil prices, which may be why we haven't done it already.

If Iran really controlled the gulf, they themselves would've closed it off specifically to drive up oil prices and hurt the U.S. The fact they haven't tells us all who REALLY controls it.

Conclusion: it's all bluster for the mullah's propaganda at home to project strength to combat the rising unrest in country.

Blowhard.

Just like Trump claimed he has full control of American government.

And Iran thinks they will still be able to do get needed goods in and ship out oil to sell?

Feeling sorry for the USN Military Police that have to patrol Bahrain with all these nervous sillypants running everywhere.

I once had a war hero pilot hit himself in the face with my flashlight there.

Strange things happen. SECO might even say good job about the whole flashlight hitting in the face thing because he wanted it.

Different times.

Last time we beat their asses, their commander told them not to take us on individually.

Carry on. You kick me in the face after I take these leg irons off, we’re going to have a problem.

A few Boston Whalers and some really old Russian subs, are not controlling anything.

Much like what happened to Iraq, back in 1990, any conflict/war would be over before it began. And unlike past admins, that like to blow up milk processing plants, I think the current admin will go directly for the heart of the Iranian leadership.

The Iranian people, especially the young ones, have witnessed what happened in Iraq and Syria. They don’t want that. They want the internet and to be part of the world.

I wonder how many seconds it would take to sink their entire fleet (I use the term loosely).

I don't know, they all look the same to me. Nobody is talking about occupying Iran. Just remodeling the coast line. And maybe a few facilities in Tehran.

I know it was 30 years ago, but you would think the lessons of Operation Preying Mantis would still be fresh in the minds of these decrepit leaders. If they want us to conduct Operation Preying Mantis II, go ahead and try to close off the straits....

What’s your point? What does size have to do with standing up to the Iranian navy and ensuring freedom of the seas? Iran is a Pygmy when it comes to military capabilities. They were barely able to fend off Iraq during their 8 year war.
