Remember the time when Americans were truly a Free People?
I still wish my Dad had bought me the WWII German Anti Tank Rifle tat I saw advertised in the back of a Magazine. It was a bit expensive at the time, $179 as I recall.
Anti-Tank,,,
Yeah, I settled for a Mattel.
No, I dont remember a time when Americans were truly free. I was born in 1958, far too late to be a truly free American. I was born into a world where “driving is a priviledge” and you cold not drive without a license. I was born into a world where income tax non_payment meant jail time. I was born into a world where the government could take your home away if you refused to pay yor property tax.
I realize we are far less free today, with no privacy, but no I cannot “remember” a time when Americans were truly free, since I was born long after.
Certainly we were not truly free n 1968 when draconian gun control was passed. We were not truly free in 1913 when the income tax was assed and the Federal Reserve bank created. We were not truly fee after the 1887 Interstate Commerce Act was passed.
I suspect we stopped being truly free sometime before the the War Between the States, when the 10th Amendment was killed off. I would go so far as to say Americans have not been truly free since the Whiskey Rebellion, when the government illegally taxedwhiskey in 1791.
Seeing as how we became a nation in 1781 with the Articles of Confederation, I would say Americans were truly free for only about 10 years. So no, I dont remember those days. Big government wasted NO time in beginning to oppress Americans, it has just gotten progressively worse, until we are close to totalitarian dictatorship today. We have almost never been truly free. Governments cant stand a Free people. Not even George Washington, who I love and respect as being the best of the lot.
