A decade or nearly so (two Senate terms in DC!) is long enough. Time to go home and reconnect with constituents, go home and experience the effects of ones governing genuis!
1. Two consecutive terms in the Senate - 12 years then must sit out a term before you can come back,
2. Five consecutive terms (10 years) then sit out three terms (6 years) before you can return.
Above all GO HOME!!!!!!
If you insist on being a professional politician, go home - run for governor, county commissioner, mayor, etc. Again go home! Maybe get a private sector job back home & not a Beltway pseudo-private sector job ! Again go home!
THIS is a good plan.
This is an idea that should be promoted.
This country was never meant to have PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS.
Our system was designed to have a CITIZEN identify a problem/problems and run for federal office to address those problems, specifically if they could not be handled at the local or state level.
I believe our problem with the entitlement mentality, and the idea of lifetime tenure actually started with the advent of PERMANENT POLITICAL PARTIES.
It is my opinion that if we get rid of political parties and go back to just being AMERICANS; electing those citizens that are willing to address SPECIFIC problems our system would be a lot better off.
Solve the problem; go back home to your business, your farm, your medical practice, whatever else you do in society that is actually beneficial to your neighbors.
Think about a system where there are no Republicans, no Democrats, no Socialists, no Greens, no all the other alphabet soup, special interest groups, just CITIZENS interested in GETTING THINGS DONE.
Thats one best remedys Ive heard yet, and for the reasons stated. Of course they would actually have to go home. Not just hang out in Virginia or Maryland to wait out their time-out before running again.
And no lobbying in the interim.
