The chairman of a Connecticut school district's board of education resigned after the board voted to begin each meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Josh Adams, chairman of the New Hartford Board of Education, ( reportedly stepped down) after opposing a vote by his fellow board members.
Adams was overruled after telling board members that he would not propose the policy in a meeting, saying he decides on the agenda as chairman.
He also said he doesn't pledge allegiance to anything and supports "principles on which the country was founded."

Thank you for breaking the ice. It was written by an atheist/socialist & I thought most conservatives realized that by now.
These days, "Buena adiós!"
The states are geographical and they have lost most of their rights to the Federal Government...that is why many in this nation are calling for a Convention of States. I believe our Pledge of allegiance to that flag, solidifies Americanism, makes us feel good that we have such a country....T.J. would weep at the state of our States today.... why make a normal American action into something that barely exist today; you should join your states convention of states.
Good riddance to the trash.
I imagine the guy is a jerk, but I’ve never understood why I should pledge allegiance to the flag.
Pledging allegiance to the constitution, Absolutely.
Pledging allegiance to the Republic, OK.
Pledging allegiance to the flag, I’m not sure what that means.
Pledging allegiance to the President, I don’t think so.

Good riddance.
Don’t let that door hit you in the ass on the way out.
If he quit, even the American Communist Lawyers Union can’t get his job back.
A voluntary resignation just has to be accepted to be valid.
Which is the way most of the Founders saw it, as a division of internal and external authority.
My biggest problem with the pledge (other than the being written by a socialist part) is the beginning.
'Pledging allegiance' is to swear an Oath of fealty....something the Founders wouldn't do for a King. Why should I do it for a government?
Good point.
My opinion is that when youve been indoctrinated for beliefs, pledging allegiance to a king for example, then it can become a habit that can be hard to break.
Pavlovian conditioning is a related issue imo.
In fact, Ill take it a controversial step further and argue that repeatedly pledging allegiance to something can lead to idolatry.
