She fatally shot an unarmed black man. Now shes teaching other police officers how to survive such incidents.
She calls it The Ferguson Effect.
Two years after she fatally shot an unarmed black man in Tulsa, Betty Jo Shelby, now a police officer in an adjacent county, is teaching a course on how to survive such events legally, emotionally and physically. The course, as she explained it to a local ABC affiliate, equips officers to withstand the effect named for the Missouri city convulsed by the 2014 shooting of a black teenager when a police officer is victimized by anti-police groups and tried in the court of public opinion.
Shelby, who is white, was tried last year in a criminal court in Tulsa County. She was acquitted of first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of Terence Crutcher. But the jury questioned her judgment as a law enforcement officer. If less lethal force had been an option, serious consideration must be given to whether she be allowed to return to practicing law enforcement, said the jury foreman, in a letter the presiding member asked the court to make public to placate the medias desire to interview members of the jury. The Tulsa Police Department pulled her from the streets and reassigned her to a desk job, prompting Shelby to resign. Sitting behind a desk, she explained in a statement, is not for me.
I did feel like my career was done, she told Tulsa World of the dispute over the 2016 shooting, which spurred protests and renewed a national debate over race and policing.

Instead of calling her lecture, 'The Ferguson Effect' she should have called it, 'How to Survive a Liberal Media Hit Job and Radical Leftist Lynch Mob'.
IIRC, this was the female officer who shot the black suspect who was going back to his car. Video was captured from a helo. Here partner was holding a taser, so they used her use of a firearm against her.
Wasn’t it only recently that we saw a suspect run around the car and retrieve a firearm and shoot at the officers?
You don’t get to go back to your car to get something. Ever.
Did they mention that he had violent confrontation with police before and also was on PCP?
“... now shes teaching other police officers how to ...”

(unfortunate wording of shortened title)
“Unarmed” can still be very dangerous.
“Wasnt it only recently that we saw a suspect run around the car and retrieve a firearm and shoot at the officers?”
Yes, in Pennsylvania. https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Dashcam-Video-Shows-Near-Fatal-Shooting-of-Pennsylvania-State-Troopers-490496461.html
Both officers fired at the same time, so the perp must have done something to invoke such a response.
Note the shooting of a black teenager
You remember, the strong armed robber who charged the police officer?
Yeah that one
Another shill for DNC/blackkk talking points, scrawling his swill in the Washington ComPost. Thanks yesthatjallen.
I get irritated when the liberal media tries to insinuate that cops go out LOOKING to kill people.
They don’t. I feel for this woman. I also am not happy an unarmed black guy was shot. He should have obeyed the lawful order.
The cop who shot the man in the back (South Carolina?) was rightfully convicted. But let’s not join in with the left on blaming all cops.
I’m sure the title covers all of the story and that is all that happened, no other details or circumstances, right???
The locals in Ferguson are still protesting the mini-mart that Mike Brown strong-arm robbed before his encounter with Darren Wilson. Its mind boggling.
They can’t resist. “Shelby, who is white,...” In their minds, this means Shelby is guilty. Proof: do a google search for:
“blacks killing cops”
google changes it to:
“cops killing blacks”
When you look at video from the incident... the obvious reason the idiot left his vehicle parked in the middle of a two lane highway was because he was drunk or on drugs. And of course it turns out that toxicology reports show that poor Terence was stoned on PCP and TCP, “angel dust” which causes all sorts of bizarre and dangerous behaviors. But his family says that Terence was in the process of turning his life around.
I once was on a call with a young lady who someone drugged hoping to get into her pants. She went bat-sh!t crazy instead; it took six of us to hold her down so she wouldn’t hurt herself or someone else. My crew and I had to go in the back of the ambulance with her to the hospital. At approximately 110 pounds Terence out weighed her by about 3 times.
In 25 years working on the street responding to calls with the police I saw them do stupid things many times. I am not convinced that this was necessarily one of those times, especially since a jury who examined the evidence found her innocent despite tremendous pressure to convict.
Once the media flags you, even if the court proves your innocence, they will harass and hound you until you are dead. Then they’ll mock you. Proof is in this story and others.
“Its mind boggling.”
Not really. They want something given to them for nothing. I’ve seen it my whole life.
Acquitted unanimously by a jury of her peers, including two blacks IIRC.
Fair enough.
Cant get passed the fire wall. Why did she shoot him?
Here’s the same article from another site without the firewall: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-betty-shelby-police-involved-shooting-class-20180828-story.html
She shot him because he was high on PCP, failing to follow orders, and reached back inside his vehicle — at which point, she fired because she was trained that the reach usually results in the person coming out with a weapon. Recent video of a stop in Pennsylvania showed a similar situation where the reach did result in a weapon coming out and one cop was shot, very nearly fatal due to bleeding out.
