YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima Police Department is asking the public to help find the person who vandalized a department-sponsored mural in downtown Yakima.
This beautiful new artwork was recently graffitid on, police said in a Monday Twitter post.
Located at Sixth Street and East Lincoln Avenue, the mural was commissioned by several officers in the Yakima Police Departments Gang Prevention Unit. It is the first piece of graffiti art to be commissioned by the city, and says Yakima in large purple letters.
The mural was vandalized less than a week after it was highlighted in the Herald-Republic in a SCENE magazine story about graffiti-style arts growing acceptance.
The artist was Trevor Braden, 31, of Toppenish. He has been creating urban art for years under the street name Tabs.
Police have asked anyone with information regarding the vandalism to call the department at 509-575-6200.
People also can call Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip at 800-248-9980.
It's art,until it's on your business;)
With all their resources, how hard is it to place a camera to catch what was obviously going to happen? What a joke.
Yakima streetcar!
I laughed.
He inherited a Business and it was vandalized, wasn't so understanding then;)
Not a bad job, but the medium used; highly bright canned spray paints, and the blurred, furry edges that result from spray painting make it look like actual street art.
Anytime you produce work on a smooth surface that is only five or six feet high, you run the risk that someone is going to add to the work.
Some low ego people cannot resist ruining something vulnerable and somewhat delicate. They are the ones who will walk up to a Willow sapling and bend it all the way back until the baby tree snaps into a pair of small damp twigs.
What are the chances that taggers actually buy their spray paint cans?
Those cans need to be serialized and registered.
What is the difference? Paint over it all. Then arrest or shoot the next person the tags the wall.
They had to have known itd be tagged. That part of town is tagged often. Ill be in Yakima this weekend.
“Some low ego people cannot resist ruining something vulnerable and somewhat delicate.”
This needs to be repeated on other threads concerning abuse.
The “Palm Springs” of Washington...
Just competing gangs marking territory.
These culprits, when caught, need to have a tattoo placed on their forehead that states “MAGA”. Let them then see how graffiti affects one up close and personal.
In Houston the famous street taggers were friends of the dyke mayor and not proscuted when they had art openings.
They were also part of the street team illegally posting the Shep Fairey CHANGE posters locally in 2008.
That’s “beautiful artwork?” I knew this was going to happen when we legalized marijuana. The next thing you know, the cops will be skipping rope with the kids in the streets. Oh wait...
This is one area I support Sharia law.
You get caught graffiti-ing someone’s property, they either cut your hands off or they have a car run over them.
I think the Double-Dutch Bus has already passed this stop.
Did you see that this morning on FNC? The lard ass really made himself look like a fool, IMHO but that’s none of my business.
