Sucks to live in Nevada, cause all these losers are heading to Vegas to avoid trial. Big winners? Bounty hunters, which will soon be on the state payroll.

Bail bondsmen are essentially put out of business by this type of law, so at least they can still earn some money if needed as bounty hunters.

The thing is with the old system the bail bondsmen were assessing risk, and their income depended on them being good at it. Judges will now assess risk, and depending on which way they lean that will guide their decisions. They can use it to make political statements since their decisions don’t have a financial risk to them.

It is true that wealthy people bond out right away, either on their own or with a bondsman. It is also true that often poor people sit in jail for the same crimes...but those that have been stuck in jail it is because the bondsman sees them as a poor risk. No job, no stable address, no assets at all can be just from being terribly poor but it does often indicate criminal lifestyle as well.

This new way of doing it might work if judges would keep their own bias out of the decision making, but they really aren’t known to do that.
