THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

“WASTING MY LOVE ON YOU”

Before Bunny Berrigan and Tommy Dorsey became household names, they worked in relative obscurity in Fred Rich’s band. This is a 1930 recording featuring jazz legends who would become famous in just a few years. You can hear the faintest hints of Swing in the arrangement.

I wonder what Trump listens to, besides EVERYTHING!

He's a big Elton John fan.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

“WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A WALK?”

Once again Immortality sat down in Harry’s lap and gave him a great big wet kiss. His lyricists for this 1931 hit were Billy Rose and Mort Dixon for a song that would long survive Harry’s other hits. No minor key interludes here!

Marion Harris: “Would You Like to Take a Walk?”

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

“WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A WALK?”

Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey served their apprenticeships with Rich in the late 1920s and early 1930s before forming their own band – and then going their separate ways. So did Jack Teagarden. This recording from 1931 features all three.

Fred Rich: “Would You Like to Take a Walk?”
