FRANKFORT, KY (SPECTRUM NEWS) — A Federal Grand Jury has indicted Jerry Lundergan, the father of Kentucky’s Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes on 10 charges. The charges stem from when Jerry Lundergan was a campaign operative for his daughter’s 2014 Senate Campaign. Along with Lundergan, Democratic campaign strategist Dale Emmons was indicted on 6 different charges. Lundergan’s charges include conspiracy to defund the United States, unlawful campaign contributions, 4 counts of false statements and 4 counts of falsification of records or documents. Emmons’ six charges are similar. He was indicted on conspiracy to defraud the United States, unlawful campaign contributions, 2 counts of making false statements and 2 counts of falsification of records or documents. Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes issued a statement supporting her father.

“Today, the Department of Justice announced charges against my father stemming from my 2014 campaign for the United States Senate. These allegations started as a result of a politically motivated complaint filed against my campaign nearly five years ago. That complaint was already investigated and completely dismissed by the bipartisan Federal Election Commission. I love my father, and I have faith in the judgment and fairness of the people of Kentucky, and believe when all of the facts are in, my father will be vindicated. Because this matter is in the courtroom and not the world of politics, I have no further comment.”

Tres Watson, from the Republican Party of Kentucky, also issued a statement.

“At the same time that she was serving as Kentucky’s Secretary of State and chief elections officer, Alison Lundergan Grimes’ ran a US Senate campaign that now stands accused of the most egregious campaign finance crime in the history of the Commonwealth.

Whew...this has not been a good week for the remnants of the Lundergan establishment...

As stated on another article, I would not be surprised if the Beshears are behind this.

Gee. Are these republicans? Gosh. Can’t imagine why the newspapers are going after the father of a repubbie.

Seriously - If they committed a real crime, put them in jail.

In 2014, one of her aides was caught on camera telling a supporter that Grimes has to say that in order to get elected, but she doesn’t mean it.

I can’t remember if it was about guns or what.

Try reading the article.

These are Dems, although there have been plenty of criminal pubs in KY too.

Link please.

A good old style KY feud between these families would be great, especially if the Lundergans can hit back and cripple Andy Beshear.

Sorry - I didn’t mean it was information contained within an article - I was referencing the comment on another thread - it was the second thing that had come down the pike against Grimes that week.

The map won’t look like then when Andy Beshear runs against Matt Bevin.

The public employee gimmedats, especially the teachers union will see to that. Also, since his old man was governor, half the numbnuts in the state will vote for the name Beshear. IMO, they (father & son) are both pretty sleazy.

Not too many years ago the state needed some millions to “balance” the budget. So it borrowed that from the teachers pension fund & guaranteed 7% interest on the loan. Unbelievably stupid. But it gets the votes.
