Authorities across Thurston County continue the search for those responsible for the brutal killings of 13 cats in the area.
The Thurston County Sheriff's Office confirmed a 13th cat was found mutilated Thursday just outside Lacey.
On Monday, Olympia police found the 12th cat when they responded to the 3800 block of Pacific Avenue when people nearby reported finding a cat brutally murdered. The death is believed to be linked to 11 other cat killings.
The reward for information leading to the person responsible has increased to $36,000.
Animal cruelty investigator Erika Johnson said cats that have been brutally killed and mutilated have been found on display in public spaces, such as parks or front yards.
“As far as the numbers, it’s probably the worst I’ve seen in my career,” said Johnson.
Johnson first saw a cat killed in such a way in October, recently, however, there’s been an uptick in dead cats found in the area.

A lot of cats have disappeared in our neighborhood recently, and one of our two cats has been gone a month now. Pretty sure it’s Coyotes.
Whatever you call them, they hate cats with a passion.

Liking or hating cats is not the point, but whoever is doing this, is indeed a cruel, crazy individual, who needs to be stopped.

I don’t want to offend any animal lovers (I love animals myself) but you can not murder an animal.
The word murder is very specifically defined as an unlawful killing of a human being.
Modern society’s anthropomorphizing of animals must be reversed. It is taking us in a very dangerous and immoral direction.

I turned the Hood County case to Crime Stoppers and got TPWL involved...reward was to go to my Church.
Got a call back week later; no crime, no reward. Case closed
Surprised this hasn’t been put forward. Maybe if they did, folks would think the police are brushing off the folk’s concerns.
If the corpses are found in a discrete locale, maybe they can set up cameras to cover open spaces where a perp would drop a cat or an owl would catch/feed on one.
