Old-School Eulogy at Aretha Franklin Funeral Ignites Wrath
The Atlanta Journal Constitution ^ | August 31, 2018

Posted on 09/01/2018 3:45:02 AM PDT by Cecily

A fiery, old-school eulogist at the funeral of Aretha Franklin fell flat for many in the crowd and prompted a social media uproar when he declared "black America has lost its soul," black women are incapable of raising sons alone and the Black Lives Matter movement is unfounded in the face of black-on-black crime.

And that was just 26 minutes into the nearly 50 minutes of words provided by the Rev. Jasper Williams Jr. of Salem Baptist Church in Atlanta as Franklin's marathon funeral wound down Friday.

Williams, who also eulogized Franklin's father, minister and civil rights activist C.L. Franklin, 34 years ago, was excoriated on Twitter and elsewhere for misogyny, bigotry and the perpetuation of false science on race. He also blamed integration and the civil rights movement for ripping the heart out of black micro-economies that once relied on black-owned small businesses such as grocery stores, hotels and banks.

As he wended his way through the need for more African Americans to return to church and more men to return to their families, the heat turned up online, with younger people declaring rhetoric such as that of Williams is why they left their churches to begin with.

Old Testament prophets got the same treatment from the rich and powerful, who wanted to hear nice religious words, not a message from the Lord. I admire the Reverend for preaching the Word and fearing God, not man.

Some people are content in their rage and blame, and they just do not want to hear the truth.

He probably knew he’d be attacked, but some things just must be said, and what better opportunity than with a captive audience and the media tuned in?

Years ago I was the military escort for the body of a coworker who had been murdered by his wife’s lover. Funeral was at a little black baptist church in northeast Texas. Very interesting sermon. In five minutes the pastor had written Vern off and was intent on saving the sinning widow’s soul to the point where I almost felt sorry for her.

Looks like I turned it off too soon....

All this criticism seems to come via social media - what about the attendees at the service? If they sat and listened politely, apparently they weren’t offended. I have no idea the number of people there but it was YUGE!!!

Black communities were once founded around neighborhood churches that were conservative in their social views. You would never, ever, have seen them endorsing abortion or homosexuality.

The liberal Democratic Party transformed the black communities into hopeless, welfare dependent servants. Now you see black pastors parroting the Dem party line, accepting gay rights, abortion, transgenders, any fad the Democratic party and liberal press happen to be championing.

It is sad that the idea that black men should take responsibility is now controversial. The idea that the nuclear family should be the basis for the black community is controversial. It shows how far the liberals have gone in destroying America.

It seems all the criticism is being done by the faceless goons on social media who feel empowered to speak without coming out in the open! There are probably neighborhoods who wouldn’t put up with it.

The assumption is that black men can resume a family position.

It would seem that in a matriarchal society, that is not a possibility. Grandmothers have apparently pushed the men aside and taken control. Men are used as needed. The question of ” is he my father or my uncle” doesn't matter any more

I really believe that's why Bill Cosby was taken down... He too spoke about the problems in the black community and they (The democrats) didn't like it...

Sorry Jasper. The black community is a microcosm of America, and you're asking to turn the clock back 50 years. That's like bending a sapling 90 degrees and letting it grow to maturity. Then trying to straighten it out after it's grown.

It can't be done.

People were tweeting the data didn’t support his statements. To what data are they referring? He seemed pretty straightforward to me.

FoxNews was showing some of this funeral. I saw Stevie Wonder announce ‘Black Lives do Matter’ and he got a rousing cheer. He then said (not kidding) ‘All Lives Matter’ and the cheer was less than half the previous cheer. I do think that some A-A’s are awakening to the fact that we are all in this together. I WAS surprised that it was Stevie Wonder that said it.....he has been a race hustler for many years. Hopefully he will try to heal the rift that Obama made exponentially worse.

Not understanding why any of his valid complaints even belong at a funeral.

That was his cover. So he could go on drugging and raping. Anyone but Cosby would have been serving LWOP for his decades of serial rapes.

(Alan Dershowitz trying the same defense right now, cuddling up to conservative talk shows so that people think the accusations against him were false because he dared to support trump)

An eulogist at the funeral of Aretha Franklin told the truth about the real causes of the decline of black America. Hearing the truth fell flat for many in the crowd and prompted a social media uproar. Why?

Because he announced that black America has lost its soul. Black women are incapable of raising sons alone. The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement is unfounded in the face of black-on-black crime.

Every single one of these assertions is supported by relevant data and statistics. We are encouraged because Ben Carson is helping black America to return to the family, self responsibility, and God. Black unemployment is at historic lows thanks to Donald Trump.
