.
You’d feel differently if it were your dog he stole.

>> “
So he should have not taken the dog and let the animal shelter kill the dog, which they usually do, if a do is not claimed or adopted within a few days” <<

Utterly false narrative!

DU needs people like you.

Wouldn’t the dog be “chipped” if it were so valuable?

I am part of a German shepherd rescue and you would be surprised how many purebred German shepherds are abandoned in forests, mountainsides, and deserts. A family that cared about the dog would have him either micro chipped or tattooed.
......................

Thanks for your input and service at the shelter. Any thoughts on why that is about shepherds? Are they difficult to care for. They seem like such incredible dogs.

German shepherds are great dogs but not as a puppy or a young adult for beginning dog owners. Many people will buy a German shepherd puppy and find out they can be very destructive if not closely and trained. I tell people who want a puppy to be prepared to give up a social life for the next two years and to get cheap furniture. Once they get out of their puppy years they are great dogs.

BTW I volunteer for a rescue which is different than a shelter.

That’s pretty much like labs. Totally destructive for 2 years, then the sweetest, most well adjusted dogs. Just have to get over the puppy stage.

I had a neighbor (about 2 miles away) bring a great big Golden Retriever to my place a few weeks ago and tell me I had to watch my dogs better (I have 6) and not let them roam all over the mountain, maybe lock them up.
I told her that was a real good idea and I would give it consideration.
She tried to return the Golden to me and was pretty pissed off that I couldn’t take care of my animals better, and told me so.
I told her “that’s all fine and good, but that’s NOT my dog”.
I also told her that if she couldn’t find the owner to bring the dog back to my place, she would make a great addition to the family.
All my dogs know what the property limits are and know where home is if they go to far!

Know that for a fact; have a great big beautiful girl GSD as part of my pack right now because there was no chip, no notification about lost, no posters, NO NOTHING.
She was just a puppy, she now has her chip, all vaccinations, every 2 month health appointments, and a loving pack.
I will always be her Daddy and she loves me.

They are very energetic, great boys or girls, but they will drive you and the rest of the pack fkng crazy.
But kind of like wives, CAN’T LIVE WITH’EM, CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT’EM.

NO; not false.
Just how many dogs have you adopted from county shelters?
ALL OF MY BOYS AND GIRLS have come from shelters for the last FORTY YEARS!

My BIG JACK (Black Lab) was going to be “put down” because he was to “old and mean” to be adopted. He was the best big old, HAPPY, LOVING, LOYAL, boy I have ever had the privilege and honor to call my friend.
HONEY BUNNY: She was just a puppy of 2 months (English Mastiff) when I saw her, the “shelter” was going to KILL HER because they said she was sick (yes, she was).
I had to threaten the “shelter” with legal action and the local press before they would let me adopt her.
Yeah; she was sick, cost me 1400 dollars on her first medical exam and another 2000 for treatment, she cost me my brand new M-1A1 rifle.
Was she worth it, you bet your ass she was worth it.
I have never had a more LOVING, GENTLE, SWEET, girl dog in my entire life, and I ain’t no spring chicken.
And that’s only 2 of the 5 horror stories I have about shelters.
Do they KILL DOGS that could have a shot at adoption?
Hell yes they do, why do they KILL them, for economics, that’s why.
So don’t give me your SHIT about FALSE NARRATIVES and DU, until you have gone to your local shelters and looked into the eyes of those who are going to be KILLED for the cost of some kibble and a bowl of water!

.
You miss the point completely?

The shelters have agreed not to destroy the fire animals.

Its a fake excuse for stealing a $2000 dog.
