What led the church to where it is today was unspeakable crimes and institutional cover-ups. At a moment when unqualified humility would seem the only possible response available to leaders of the Catholic faith, they instead choose to engage in the scurrilous scapegoating of innocent gay people. They demonstrate an unwillingness to accept full responsibility and a breathtaking absence of decency. Abuse in the church occurred not because of homosexuality but because church leaders created safe spaces for predators. Some of the abusers might have been gay. So what? Psychologists say pedophiles are sexually aroused not by gender but by youth, and homosexuality does not make people more likely to abuse others, as studies have shown. Some of the victims in Pennsylvania were girls.
When priests tell church members that homosexuality is a bar to Heaven, that's ultimately a spiritual matter the faithful must work out for themselves, but when church officials charge that homosexuality causes outrages in communities here on Earth, the discussion becomes a concern for believers and non-believers alike. Whether for spiritual or humane principles, the reaction from within and without the church must be to categorically reject such hateful messages.

Even the RC in Europe does not have the problem on the scale of the US and US trained clergy where the lavender mafia controlled the seminaries in many cases. The problem is not vows of celibacy but homosexual groups allowed to flourish coming from liberal US since the 50s.
I would hazard to guess that Vatican gays were fostered by US trained priests and bishops.

No one is (as the article claims) scapegoating innocent gay people. They are rightly pointing to facts that majority of abuse cases have been committed by guilty homosexual predators. Do these predators exist in greater numbers in the priesthood because of its structure? I don’t know. Certainly the refusal to confront why homosexuals should not be priests has contributed to this crisis. The actual encouragement of sexual vices contrary to Church teaching is very much to blame. Pretending otherwise insults our intelligence and will allow such abuses to continue.

The founding fathers never imagined that there would ever be other than one man, one woman marriage. They didn’t even seriously consider divorce as normal. There were slight concerns about polygamy but rampant homosexuality was considered so beyond the pale that it was not an issue.
In the Catholic Church the priests are homosexuals. In the Episcopal Church the priests are lesbians.
