Cold sea air going over warm California can’t give up any water this time of year. They get wind and fire.

Pacific is too cold off the US coast for hurricanes. SoCal can and did get tropical storms if they go up the Gulf of California and they get a lot of flooding rain if they do.

There are tropical storm watches posted tonight for Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama Gulf Coast. However, the storm is several days away.
