South Africa 'unexpectedly' slides into recession as agricultural production plummets

Gee, who could have possibly anticipated that threatening to steal (that is, expropriate without compensation) land from farmers who have worked it for generations would cause farmers to cut back on planting?  Thus, we have Bloomberg telling us, "South Africa's economy unexpectedly shrank for the second consecutive quarter in the three months through June."

The recession, based on a second-quarter decline in GDP of 0.8%, is entirely due to a steep decline in agricultural production: "the agriculture market fell back by 29.2 per cent, taking 0.8 per cent off GDP."

This was entirely predictable.  Half a year ago, I warned that with expropriation of white farmers, South Africa is embarking on a course headed toward disaster:

The former Rhodesia turned itself from the breadbasket of Africa, a major exporter of staple grains, into a country on the perpetual verge of mass starvation by expropriating and often murdering white farmers and giving land to cronies of President Mugabe, who were not capable of stewardship.  The same thing happened to other elements of the economy as well, all based in getting even for racial grievances of the past.

Venetia Joubert Sarah Oosterveld photographed the results of Zimbabwe's land reform and descent into socialism and wrote in 2009:

Crops are falling and there is a drought coming very soon. 33% of the population of Zimbabwe has AIDS.

There is no indication that this first step toward poverty will change any minds in South Africa.  Much as in Venezuela, we must watch in sadness as the fantasy economics of the left destroys wealth in the name of social justice and a nation ends up in starvation and poverty.

I’d suspect more that Clintons would set up a segment of their foundation to provide charity relief to the starving and then loot the fund. Though by this time, maybe, just maybe, they’ve squirreled a sufficient number of hundreds of millions of dollars out of Fed reach so they can be comfortable without taking on any more risk. They’ve already gotten away with the astronomical, the galaxy-wide theft.

All I'm saying is we have ZERO obligation to feed them... I don't want to fight wars in the middle east for the corrupt politicians who got 'speakers' fees' in the millions of dollars (over time) either.

The Corrupt Deep State needs to be cut off from the ability to sell out our country for 'speaker's fees'...

Did you know rulers in the Middle East were forced to pay for people to sit in the audiences for OUR corrupt politicians, retired military, contractors, etc etc etc? People in the ME see our people as the most corrupt - demanding bribes and all the fool fa ra with the bribe taking. Middle East types resent having to play along with all the crap about hiring people (who often don't speak or understand English) is sit and listen to these 'Americans' 'give speeches'... Bill and Hillary were't the only ones with their hands out...

Well the Boars and other Whitey’s transformed South Africa and Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) into a semi-civilized environment for awhile.

Look at the dang Arabs and what they did to Israel for 1300 years or so. Cesspool indeed. Abraham’s children came trickling in during the late 1800’s and it’s become the most successful nation in the region - soon the world.

Under new management changes a lot of things FRiend!

“it’s become the most successful nation in the region - soon the world.”

Well, thank you.

I agree about the region, not sure about the world.

We do our best to punch above our weight class, but we are the size of New Jersey.

There isn’t going to be a nation that will be able to hold a candle up to Israel soon.

Science, technology, agriculture - you name it.

Civilized and decent, moral people will recognize that fact too.
