Dems shut down Senate over Kavanaugh hearings

Senate Democrats closed down the chamber floor Wednesday to protest the confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

The hearings were able to continue, but only after the GOP agreed to quit floor business for the rest of the day.

Under Senate rules, committees need consent from both sides of the aisle to meet into the afternoon when the floor is also in session. Consent is almost always granted...

If I were in charge of the hearings, I would have assembled an experienced team to brainstorm the possible ways the Democrats might disrupt the hearings so I would have counter-measures ready to quickly implement.

Right now, it looks like multiple Democrats may vote for Kavanaugh, but no Republicans, not even Susan Collins, is voting against him.

Hard to sell an "extremist" narrative when Kavanaugh has bipartisan support but only partisan opposition.

Open question to all more moderate or undecided voters:

Do any of the Democrat and protesters histrionics, make any of you more likely to support Democrats? Have any of you been convinced that Kavanaugh is a monster, a clear and present danger who will impale women on coat hangers?

Does Chuck Schumer pulling this manuver make you more likely to want him to be Senate majority leader? Does any of this give you great confidence if Democrats were again running Congress?
