We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure. President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader.
It’s not just that the special counsel looms large. Or that the country is bitterly divided over Mr. Trump’s leadership. Or even that his party might well lose the House to an opposition hellbent on his downfall.
The dilemma — which he does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them.
To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic.
That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office.

Had me intrigued until he/she got to the part about praising John McCain and characterizing Trump as an “admirer” of Putin and Jong Un for treating them as national powers to be dealt with, not demonized and calling “ deep state” the “ steady state”

I defy idiots like this to tell me ONE THING Trump has done to indicate he is not in favor of ANY of these freedoms. I think that may be the thing that bothers me most about today's left. They feel the only support they have to offer for their arguments is, "Because I say so."
Tell everyone in the Administration to turn in their resignations and they will only be considered to remain if they pass a lie detector test. Anyone refusing will be terminated. Time to drain the swamp in the West Wing.

I have no problem thinking this is true. The President has made some horrible choices and exactly who is his kitchen cabinet. Look at someone like Kelly Anne Conway’s husband and his stated twitter hatred and ridicule of this President. I have no doubt someone like him is on the inside. I’ve never seen a President with the lack of loyalty as this one. The best thing he could have done is shut the circus down a long time ago starting with Press briefings.

The author is using McCain to cover his sabotage of the Trump Presidency. He is leaking to the NYT but says he only cares about the country. He is aiming his story at moderate Republicans.
I am not sure if this person exists. I am not sure if it is one person or a group effort. But the strategy is simple. They are trying to destroy support for Trump prior to the midterms.
