The very fact it is anonymous source makes me openly wonder if the New York Times made up the story in the first place.
A distinct possibility. Is it a PROBABILITY? Nothing surprises me when it comes to the fake news mafia(Gee, I hope I don't offend Andrew Cuomo with that remark :/ )

If we find out the article really was a fake, it would so damage the New York Times' reputation that the Editor-in-Chief Dean Baquet would be "tossed under the bus" in no time flat.

With nothing having worked against Trump, NYT resorts to anonymous sources (probably writing the op-ed themselves) to attack him. And in the process NYT damages its own credibility even more.
As for chaos, it is the Senate that has shown itself in the past days to be in chaos. The Democratic party and the left are in chaos: calling for punishment where there has been no crime; hysterical rants that make no sense; lies; etc. Booker, Kamala Harris, Schumer, Pelosi, and Maxine W. have become unhinged.

Maybe the author was a NYT staffer who got high in the parking lot smoking weed just before being “close to the president” at a press briefing inside the White House.....so they aren’t TOTALLY lying
