OMG, M Street! I remember Friday nights at the Magnolia. Also the Rathskeller I believe it was called. Remember the “spare change” guy who was a fixture there? “Spare change? You got any spare change?” Also that old bicycle painted all white that would show up in random places. I lived in the basement of a big old dumpy house on Comstock Ave. A friend of mine was the actual Orange mascot. I remember the horrible day when the space shuttle blew up.

I am not sure I ever went into the Rathskeller more than once or twice. It was always too dark and creepy.

There were so many dumpy rental houses. Ours had a second floor porch we would seriously not let more than 4 people out on at any time. I remember looking at one rental house that had a toilet in the middle of the living room that actually worked.

The guy who owned our rental house also owned a couple furniture stores in the area. He was rich, but he was also a slum lord. Our house was furnished with some pretty good quality older furniture. I remember we ran out of oil for the furnace in the middle of winter because we were too poor to buy it. The house got about 50 degrees inside on the first floor.
