The hunt is on for the identity of the anonymous author of an op-ed in the New York Times who claimed to be a senior official in the Trump administration. Everyone is getting in on it, including famed Unabomber profiler James Fitzgerald in a Fox News interview with Harris Faulkner on Friday.
If you are familiar with the Unabomber case or watched the fascinating Discovery Channel series Manhunt: Unabomber you would be aware that Fitzgerald, while working as an FBI profiler, used his expertise in forensic linguistics, the analysis of written and spoken language for investigative and evidentiary purposes, to analyze the writings of the Unabomber, Ted Kaczinski, including his manifesto.

This is getting interesting. Perhaps Free Republic should have a contest “Guess the creep”. Prizes gelore.
Was that before or after Kaczinski was nabbed...?
Wasn't it a family member that read his stuff and turned him in..?
The profiler got an enormous amount of details right on the Unabomber (surprising in the end).
In this case, the individual wanted to announce themselves....feeling absolutely no threat. They think they are smart enough to avoid detection. The individual also feels some connectivity to the NY Times. My guess is that they read it daily.
His brother I believe.
Yes. His own brother.
My hypothesis Sarah Jeong is the author and that the editorial is a massive hoax and fraud being perpetrated on the people.
If the NYT wants to convince anyone differently, they need to name the perp.
Well, there are definitely cabals in the government - the FBI proved that. But there were misleading clues put into the op-ed, unusual words designed to point to different people. So it’s still possible it was written by a Times editor and reporter, either as a complete fabrication, or a hopeful fantasy about a cabal that exists in the administration.
Yes, as I recall, his brother recognized the statements and cadence of the Unabomber manifesto, as being the types of ramblings his brother had been making over the years.
I think the NYT made it up — no WH “source” at all.
Absolutely. His wife noticed the similarities between Ted's rantings and those of the Unabomber and nagged his brother until he agreed to go to the authorities. The FBI have spent the past twenty years taking credit for his apprehension.
Bob Woodward to increase sales of his book.
Most likely.
The writer seems to have copied phraseology from many different criticisms of Trump, perhaps to avoid revealing too much of their own distinctive style.

Too bad.
I was going to say Ivanka.
“Daddy, you were always more interested in building those stupid skyscrapers than in looking at my school drawings. And you favored the other siblings over me and the grandchildren over mine. And you called Jared a scrawny geek once. I became a closet liberal to get back at you. Chelsea suggested the spy/saboteur thing.”
Faked documents are almost always derivative in some way, especially if you're trying to convince people that they've been written by a certain individual, or lead them in that direction. I knew the "Ripper Diary" was fake the moment I spotted the author's ubiquitous use of the expression "ha-ha." That was an expression used in Ripper letters of highly doubtful authenticity, but the forger needed to throw it into the diary as convicing proof that the Ripper had written it.
Absolutely true. The Unabomber would have gotten away for much longer or forever but his brother turned him in.
NOT FBI brilliance. The dolts.
Now the FBI is engaged in treason and hates our sitting president. What a bunch of stiffs.
The writer will suffer more than the target (Trump). The writer was stupid to write it, and the NYT was stupid to publish it.
...and this op ed comes right at the time of Kavanaugh hearings......just a democRAT operation.
Ivanka
Or
Nikki Haley
