Trump tells Apple to make products in U.S. to avoid China tariffs

U.S. President Trump tweeted on Saturday that Apple Inc (AAPL.O) should make products inside the United States if it wants to avoid tariffs on Chinese imports.

The company told trade officials in a letter on Friday that the proposed tariffs would affect prices for a “wide range” of Apple products, including its Watch, but it did not mention the iPhone.

Trump, speaking on Friday aboard Air Force One, said the administration had tariffs planned for an additional $267 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Trump tweeted that “Apple prices may increase because of the massive Tariffs we may be imposing on China - but there is an easy solution where there would be ZERO tax, and indeed a tax incentive. Make your products in the United States instead of China. Start building new plants now.”(continued)

Meanwhile, Samsung won’t be subject to tariffs.

Huh? And why not? Samsung built and owns many factories in China, and directly employs thousands of Chinese workers. Most of Samsung's products are made in China by Samsung owned factories. Samsung's phones sold in the U.S.A. will indeed be subject to tariffs on Chinese goods. Apple is better positioned, as they contract through Taiwanese companies that can produce outside China, and Apple has factories in the USA and outside of China. Pretty stupid of Samsung to have all their production in China.

Bravo to Mr. Trump for speaking the truth.

Apple *used* to make computers in Elk Grove, California (near Sacramento), and IIRC they made laptops at one point near Boulder, Colorado.

They could make iPhones, MacBook Pros, and other stuff here, if Tim Cook told them to. But I sense Cook is too much into being the LGBTQRXYZ hero, too much into living with his (male) partner the LGBTQRXYZ lifestyle, and more interested in money than the nation which allowed him to do the previous two things without being stoned to death, or experiment with gravity and no parachute from upper floors of buildings.

Cook also seems to have forgotten if people can’t make enough money to purchase things they make, pretty soon things they make won’t get made. Think Henry Ford & his wage structure when he pioneered the assembly line.

Apple reportedly employs 1 million Chinese, directly or indirectly, in China. This means Apple’s employee count is therefore low and its revenues per employee high. And that has contributed to it’s Trillion $ cap. It’s a brilliant company, but fact remains that they employ one helluva lot of Chinese!

China is rolling in massive surplus of US dollars that they don’t know what to do with - trillions being spent on their worldwide BRI (Belt and Road Initiative).

It’s great that Trump is ridiculing the smug Apple globalist corporation.

But aren’t we forgetting that it’s not economically feasible for Apple to manufacture in the US?

1. Minimum wages here are too high.
2. Relative to eager Chinese laborers, US workers are relatively spoiled and have high expectations of their employer and of wages and benefits. Some are downright lazy.
3. US Environmental restrictions are so strict compared to CHina. Apple can essentially pollute as much as it wants in China.
4. US Workers sue a lot (sexual harassment, workers comp, etc.). Cost of labor is so high here.
5. It’s not that easy for Apple to simply relocate manufacturing.

So, in reality, Trump’s words of advice for Apple are a pipe dream, but are probably part of his “the art of a Deal” strategy that keeps on rolling.

Most of Samsung’s products are made in China by Samsung owned factories.

Links? While basically all cell phones have some components that are made in China, I have read previously that most Samsung phones are assembled in South Korea.

Do not buy new Apple products. If you have to stay in their product line, buy used from a third party. Apple has become a disgrace of a company:

a/ they have completely deplatformed AlexJones while leaving Anti-American anti semites like Louis Farrakhan on iTunes.

b/ they took down 25,000 Chinese apps at the request of the communist Chinese govt.

c/ they gave the communist Chinese govt the backdoor keys to the Apple cloud in China, effectively giving the Chinese govt extra tools to spy on over 200,000,000 Chinese.

Tim Cook of Apple is a traitor to freedom and to America. STARVE APPLE do not buy new Apple products till he is gone/their policies change.

Just google about Samsung and their presence in China. Here’s one link I previously posted about Samsung and their factories in China.

http://m.chinadaily.com.cn/en/2016-07/01/content_25927212.htm

Here’s a link about where Apple iPhone components are made, from around the world, with many made in the USA. It’s designed in California, and is more American than you think. It may say made in China only because it’s primarily assembled there, but it has many USA and European components. Some iPhones have been assembled elsewhere, like Brazil & India, and soon may be assembled in Wisconsin. You won’t find that true about Samsung, which primarily has Chinese components.

Here is a link about Samsung’s abuse of it’s employees in China, where they own a major stake in companies making products for Samsung (some wholly owned by Samsung, some making their phones). Whereas Apple has no presence in China other than sales staff, and no abusive practices, Samsung directly employs staff and abuses them.

FWIW: 1989 Tiananmen Square official dead 2000 plus, estimated number exceeds 10,000 (estimated because the bodies were squashed by tracked vehicles, bulldozed into piles, the piles set on fire, and the remains fire-hosed into the sewer.

Many of the so-called protestors were not protesting anything; they were passers by, people in their homes near the Square, reporters, people returning from work, and many local troops - their vehicles destroyed; all medical facilities closed except for military personnel.

Live fire with heavy and automatic weapons went on continuously for almost 48 hours - all rounds fired were armor piercing.

It should be added here that the troops used were not from the area, but rather from the mountains; were not allowed access to the news, but instead told that the people were terrorists; the troops were the most uneducated and loyal lot that could be found at the time. They did exactly as they were told, killing everyone regardless of all other factors.

The Old Guard (the moment they were in jeopardy) would take millions with them and likely the Wumao 50 cent party (Chinese web brigade, aka trolls and propaganda writers) would 'disappear' in a red mist ...

For what they charge for their iPhones, I presume Apple has some wiggle room to hold prices even if their costs should rise.

Why should they? The same tariff that hits them will also hit their competition so it's not like this places them at a disadvantage.

Apple. And Nike. For Nike, sacrifice everything

A few years ago, I hear that a pair of Nikes cost about $1-$2 to make in Vietnam. These shoes are then sold for over $100 in the US. A lot of that difference in price goes to marketing (advertising and paying athletes to wear Nike brand)

I think Nike should make their shoes in the USA. They should set up factories in the inner cities and employ the people who buy their shoes.

Time to remind all your leftard ‘friends’ of the ChiCom Sweatshop Labor that went into that expensive Gold Plated Turd they are so proud of.

Chinese sweatshop workers don't vote in the US. But Apple, with the profits made from the sweatshop labor, can buy countless politicians...and voters.

Good point.

One more anti-worker initiative of the Watermelons in the Rat Party: kill the timber industry.

Along with coal, oil, ranching...

We’re all supposed to go back to mud huts
