Trump Administration to Require Immigrants to Support Themselves
The Epoch Times ^ | September 9, 2018 Updated: September 9, 2018 | ATTHEW VADUM

A long-anticipated plan to enforce the largely ignored public charge provisions of the nation’s immigration laws that require prospective immigrants and visa holders to be able to support themselves without relying on government aid could be unveiled by the Trump administration as soon as this month.

A source close to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rulemaking process who requested anonymity said that proposed regulations will be published this fall, and likely this month, defining the phrase “public charge” under Section 212(a)(4) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The upcoming change was previously reported in the media, but usually with little indication of when the change was expected to surface.

Left-wing advocacy organizations have attacked any attempt to formally define “public charge” as cruel and xenophobic, aimed at drastically curtailing the flow of immigrants to the United States. But the lengths to which the new regulation will go remain to be seen.

Francis Cissna, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an agency within DHS, previewed the upcoming rule during an Aug. 15 event at the National Press Club in Washington that was hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies.

“That has been the law for decades, we just did not have a President willing to enforce it.”

As my father did after processing through Ellis Island.

Good. I’ve been here 25 years (Canadian citizen), spent years and $15k in legal fees to get my green card. My wife and older son are US citizens (son due to military service). We’ve paid our taxes, have never been on any sort of government assistance and get fed up hearing about chain immigrants who come here and go straight on welfare that my tax dollars pay for.

I am a retired US citizen living in an Asian country. Every year when I renew my retirement visa, the permission to remain here, I have to prove to the satisfaction of the immigration police that I am self-supporting or they would bounce me out of here. It's not a free ride and you are either self-supporting or go on home.

Can't imagine why any country would welcome freeloaders unless there was some motive?

1)Like the DemonRats recruiting new voters?

2)Or the modern day DemonRat plantation owners wanting fresh slaves to work for wages so low no American could live on it?

3)And US citizens subsidizing the new slaves, providing housing, healthcare and public education for their sprong so they will grow-up stupid and continue to vote DemonRat?

I look forward to the law being vigorously enforced!

Don't shop at Amazon, don't use Google, Farcbook or Twitter (except to check the latest tweets by OUR President. You don't need to log-in or have an account to do that).

Those coming in through Ellis Island had to prove they could provide for themselves. What happened in the intervening years?

Wait, what?! If they have to support themselves, then what reason do they have to vote Dem? This won’t fly.

I dont even know why this shouldn;t be: they do this in other countries like my former country Canada.

It’s based on a POINTS SYSTEM before you get in. They make sure you wont be a burden to the system if they give you residency. Everything from health (blood test), assets (they want YOU to give proof of your assets to show you wont be a leech to the system)/criminal record verification etc. Plus they have a BARRIER installed: any resident CANNOT APPLY FOR WELFARE. PERIOD.

I think everyone should read the article and not just the title.

The article is about this being already in place. That’s the entire content, to sum it up.

The law already requires this.

Enforce it!

WINNING!

Best. Election. Ever. EVER! MAGA! :)

This will accomplish a few things - make Liberal heads explode, slow down the invasion (BUILD THE WALL!), take voters away from the Left and give taxpayers some relief. It may also (small ‘if’) turn some Independent hearts and minds to President Trump’s side.

He’s done so much for America, already - he needs to do some thing like this every WEEK now, and PUBLICIZE IT, up until the mid-terms.

Again, MAGA! :)

I doubt there’s any honesty involved.

A truly honest person cannot be a leftist.

That is how it is in every country and that is how it used to be prior to 1924

My parents had to have sponsors before they came here in 1952. Let the prior immigrants, Democrats, charities, etc., support new immigrants. It will motivate them to get jobs.

The Catholic Bishops reap billions from bringing in third-world primitives and setting them up with subsidized housing and government checks.

They are not going to give up those billions without a fight.

And since all the illegals are so hardworking, there should be any problem among members of the Demagogic Party. Thanks E. Pluribus Unum.

It is what every other country I have ever been to or worked in requires.

About time we did this.
