I think it was in Uncle Tom’s Cabin that I read about a technique slave holders use to employ in the Old South; namely, they’d put hair in their food. In that way you can cause large hairballs to form in their stomachs, and they just don’t get very hungry and can’t eat much, saving on the cost of food. If it were me, I’d be giving them dog food anyway, and not the premium stuff!
