Evacuating the Carolina coastal regions is easy. The BIG issue is the strong possibility of the storm stalling over the Appalachians, and that could pose a huge flooding threat to western North Carolina, western Virginia and southern West Virginia. The issue of mud flows from coal mining tailings is very real, and that could seriously damage many streams and rivers downstream.

Joe Bastardi said on Hannity this WILL be the worst (dollar) hurricane in US history. If so, we will see non-stop 24/7 blame Trump through the mid-term election. Women, children and minorities hit hardest.

Forecasts have the storm having even more powerful winds than earlier predicted.

Previously, max SUSTAINED winds were 150 mph. Now it is 155 mph.

It is possible that the storm might intensify more than this, and GUSTS can be stronger than the SUSTAINED.

BOTTOM LINE: appears to be a very DANGEROUS STORM...

There have been Hurricanes that produced many tornadoes that were more damaging than the the hurricane itself.

That said, those who stay will probably be SAFE, if they know what they are doing... But it is terrible risk to take.

North Carolina defers to local officials first. Some evacuations in North Carolina ordered.

Virginia has some limited evacuations orders.

US Navy is sortieing ships out of Norfolk, and it is scrambling to get this done.

I live in Sun City Hilton Head. As of this moment the hurricane is targeting Wilmington NC. Sun City is shut down as of tomorrow, all facilities are closed and we have “mandatory” evacuation ordered by the Governor. What utter and total BS. If you watch the (damned) Weather Channel...we are all going to die up and down the SC coast. I’m betting Wednesday when Florence is supposed to be here it will be 92F, 80% humidity, just like every other day this summer. I hate this STUPID hype. People are evacuating here and are being put into real danger traveling when there is NO NEED. Too many damned Yankees running things.

The son lives in Ladson - outside Charleston....he updates Facebook with info on what is going on and we supplement with calls...many breathing a bit easier now that the projected track is putting them away from the center and on the “good” side.

If you are fleeing from the storm make sure to take photos of every room and if you have a shed or garage outside take photos of the contents. It will help with your insurance claims. Serial numbers will help.

If you look at the 11am and 2pm forecasts versus the one from 8am , the cone got larger. Charleston appears to be back in hurricane watch and all of SC is back inside the cone. Cone center didn’t move much if any that i can tell. If it stays on the centerline for landfall near wilmington the upstate should be fine but Fayetteville/Ft Bragg (son’s loc) would have a 19% chance of Cat 1 winds. ugh- three more days of these reports is gonna cause stress.
