“Let’s see 6 months from now”
That’s exactly right. Nike is permanently linked to this anti-American protest.

Nike sales jumped by 31 percent...

There is no proof of that statement.

If this is real, it should easily be verifiable. If I was a shareholder, I’d be looking at those numbers carefully. Nike should be careful to manage expectations here or they could find themselves in deep jeopardy with investors.

There is a very critical word missing here:

Nike sales jumped by 31 percent ...

ONLINE sales...

what is happening in stores, reorders from B&M stores.

I saw Serena Williams complaining about her recent loss in a recent interview.

She wore a Nike T-Shirt.

Coincidence?

By contrast, I went to the College of the Ozarks Campus Store and bought a new T-Shirt.

There are two reasons to boycott

One is that you hope to punish a company and influence their bad behavior

The other is because you wish to divorce yourself from a company so you do not support their bad behavior.

I am under no illusion that a boycott can hurt a fashion behemoth like Nike. I am just getting away from them because I want nothing to do with them.

I don’t want to support them and I don’t want to promote them by wearing their logo. I am sure they will do fine as a SJW brand. They will just do it without me.

let's see if in six months

Agreed. What Nike has done is establish itself as the gangsta brand that doesn't want mainstream whites wearing them. Will it translate into permanently increased sales? Who knows? A big factor might be if it hurts sales of their NFL and team /pro sports official gear.

You are correct.

Think of it as a person that has a large amount of land that they use to harvest trees.

Nike burned a major part of their forest to ash, while the remaining part they saw a 31% increase in what they’ve harvested.

The problem is when they’ve harvested the part they didnt burn, and they get to the part that they burned to ash, and find there are no trees to be found, and none grew back. That’s when the SHTF.

It’s just like what happened to Macy’s, Target, and Dick’s.

The art of the boycott is a slow and satisfying reward.

They are banking on you to forget that they burned you and just “grow back”.

Dont.

According to data from Edison Trends, online sales of Nike products jumped 31 percent between the Sunday before and the Tuesday after Labor Day, nearly double last year’s 17 percent increase over the same time period.

A three day trend of online sales? Not much to go on. It'll be a few weeks before any real indication of customer response to the Kaepernick ads can be measured.

Someone who believes anything he sees in print might not wanna go there.

Correct, but there are laws for publicly traded companies reporting their numbers. I highly doubt these are incorrect.

And context is king, pard. Even is if sales numbers and the stock price are up, that doesn't necessarily translate into good news for Nike.

Agreed. Notice I did not make any comment regarding this aspect. I only commented about the poster not believing public numbers that are easily confirmed.

Very misleading upon reading further:

-Online sales - Big whoop. Let’s see store sales in flyover country.
-Three day Labor day data - was up 17% over same period last year. So 31% up 2018, up 17% 2017. Not the same as up 31% when you compare year over year.
-54% of Nike customers do not have a positive view of Kaepernick. Not a good number for Nike.

My guess is that we will be studying new Coke and Nike advertising as examples of failed marketing.

Easy for the left to make a purchase in support right now.

Let’s see it in 6 months.

That's where I am. They did get the surge. How will it play out through the year, quarter, or even month?

Nike shoes and gear are expensive, demanding a premium. I think they have offended a large segment of their premium paying customer base and they have also exposed themselves to criticism of hypocrisy regarding the "sacrifice" of their workers.

They probably timed this ad campaign with a seasonal expectation of a surge in sales so they would not have to back track on a bad decision. Labor Day is a convergence of Tennis, Golf, Baseball, and Football; not to mention back to school. But I won't be filling the Christmas stockings full of Nike gear for sure and I think there are others like myself.

I would not say that I am boycotting Nike, but rather I am just planning on taking my dollars elsewhere in my sportswear spending. If they continue to do well, good for them and their newfound customer base. I don't have a goal of "hurting" them, but I will not buy their new "brand" shifting.

If I were trading in the market, I would buy some Put Options on NKE and wait for the day. If the market has any kind of correction, Nike will correct more so. JMHO

And, an interesting comment on the vid:

It's not "their sales", it's "their online sales". Nike's been focusing on their online presence.. it's on their 2017 financial report; they're closing down brick and mortar stores, and focusing on direct to consumer sales. Online sales are about 20% of their entire sales, so a 31% increase on 20% of the total comes up to about 6% increase in sales.. assuming no changes in other sales. And it looks to me like they've shut down more stores than can be covered by a 6% increase, it's possible their total sales are down.

Short lived. A consumer can only afford so many over-priced shoes.
