We are only a little over an hour away as well. We went in the early days as you describe. The new and improved site routes traffic from U.S. 30, not from the local roads.

In general, I think the National Park Service has done a good job in honoring the heros while respecting the privacy of the locals not to have all the traffic going through. It is a delicate and respectful balance. The local roads simply could not handle the traffic which comes to visit the site now.

New York City is enemy territory .. not much change since the Revolution in that respect.

I don't think I want to go to the new and "improved" site.

We live a few hours away and have been there 6-8 times over the past 17 years.

First time was just a few months after it happened and then about every other year.

The site has many changes and just this year the 93' tower with 40 chimes was added and I think we will visit later this week.

It will bring tears to your eyes. MAGA!!!

By moving it to PA he not only visited a nearly forgotten memorial, but he also kept it classy for all of us to have peace on this day.

It might be nearly forgotten in libtard big cities. It certainly isn't forgotten here in flyover Pennsylvania.

The site is very well visited, so much in fact that it is best to pick something other than a weekend or holiday to go.

Amen. The speech brought tears. The best that Trump has ever given.

The Islamics won, anyway. They turned the whole site into a mosque via the Crescent of Embrace. They also put a mosque on the Noo Yawk site, and there is already a mosque not far from the Pentagon.

Had the good fortune to play 9 holes of golf this morning at our local Navy base and thought of the Muslim attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and Flt 93 while standing at attention as the national anthem played at 0800.

Then as I drove home I had the good fortune to hear President Trump’s speech at Shanksville this morning. It was magnificent. Do yourself a favor and listen to a replay. I am so proud of my country and my president today I have tears in my eyes even now.

You sir, or ma’am, sound like a McCain Neocon with that comment. The President’s speech this morning was anything but conciliatory. It was solemn, yes, but barely avoided copying Churchill’s never never, never surrender.

Okay,I know what you are talking about. We would come in after going east bound through Somerset off (I think) St. Rd. 711. Rt. 30 makes more sense.

BKO was on the plane that flew into the Pentagon.

“I don’t think I want to go to the new and “improved” site. “

In the early post crash years, I’d stop by while on route to somewhere on the Turnpike. I have no interest in checking out the “crescent” memorial.

I’m from Somerset, and I go there frequently. I was very, very disappointed at how everyone handled that memorial.

It took FOREVER to complete, was nearly abandoned 3 times that I visited and the site was just a dirt lot.

Even upon completion I visited it to see no one there. Buildings closed. 3pm.

I used to marvel at Windmill #1 in Somerset up on the hill. They had a nice garden there and a plaque dedicated to the project manager (Or engineer?) of the site who died on that plane. Now it’s razed and a patch of weeds replaced it.

I was disappointed. It could have been beautiful - a hidden gem to those closest to the incident. Instead it was just ... forgotten and paved over.

Even in Norwalk CT one of the first trade center memorials went up. It’s quite nice. Small, but it’s revered by everyone involved.
