Sen. Ted Cruz: Will Texas prevent us from recognizing the heroes of the Alamo?

Generations of Texans have rightly drawn inspiration and strength from the heroes of the Alamo – the brave men who fought to the death to defend the battle-scarred mission in San Antonio in 1836 in the fight for Texas’ independence from Mexico. These freedom fighters are a symbol of valor for all Americans.

It is bizarre, then, that an advisory group recommended to the Texas Board of Education that it remove the words “all the heroic defenders” from the state’s social studies curriculum describing the men who gave their lives at the Alamo.

The Board of Education was holding a hearing in Austin on the proposal Tuesday. Fortunately, according to the San Antonio Express-News, “the board appeared poised to keep the words in the curriculum” when it is scheduled to discuss the issue Wednesday. A final decision is expected in November.

The advisory group, called “Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Work Group,” even recommended dropping the requirement that students in Texas should be able to explain the importance of a letter from Col. William B. Travis, commander of the rebels at the Alamo. The letter was addressed to “the People of Texas and All Americans in the World” and is known as the “victory or death letter.”

This letter has been considered a vital founding document of Texas history ever since it inspired thousands of men to take up arms in revolution to free Texas from the oppressive regime of General Santa Anna.

Travis wrote in the letter:

“The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken – I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls – I shall never surrender or retreat.”

This would appear to be a good move politically for Cruz, to have hitched himself to such a major historical Texas milestone now coming under PC attack. But, don’t be hating on me for pointing this out, he’s walking right into something. He says “remember the Alamo” but couldn’t even remember what? That he was a Canadian citizen. Wait for it because you know it’s coming.

Just point out that Santa Anna was such a corrupt POS the Mexicans themselves tried to kill him.


He was presidente four times I believe. And each time he was overthrown. He cost Mexico a third of its territory during three of his terms: 1836: Texas, 1848: California & New Mexico Terr., 1853: Gadsen Purchase. But like a deranged Mexican Engergizer Bunny, he just kept coming back. During one overthrow the people dug up his buried leg and drug it through the streets.

The small family ranch I grew up on is still being worked and lived on by a cousin of mine-it has a Texas heritage ranch plaque on the gate, having been a family working ranch for a documented 176 + years. Like many W. Texas ranches post oil boom, it is a remnant of a once-larger one. The last democrat any relative voted for that I know of was JFK-no democrat voters in the family since then-and nobody hires or likes mojados either-that attitude is also common in old Tejano rural families-liberals don’t like that we are just ordinary American conservatives, so they pretend we don’t exist...

Using incomplete out of context quotes is also a Leftist thing.

For example lets look at the full paragraph of Jefferson:

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

A lot of Americans had family in England--so they were reluctant to break families apart by declaring independence but felt they had to.

But in the same document what Jefferson and the founders thought about the importance of race is expressed here:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Nothing at all about race or ethnic backgrounds at all. Instead explicit statements about the equality of all humankind under God.

So it seems you would take a reluctance to break up extended families expressed by Jefferson as a sad excuse to slander him as someone who shares in the racial bigotry of the Left. Quite pathetic.

His mother was a Mexican national when he was born, making him a Mexican national.

First of all, his mother was born in Delaware and his father was an immigrant from Cuba. He was born in Canada to US citizens although raised in Texas, which theoretically allowed him to declare dual US-Canadian citizenship, but he renounced any claim to Canadian citizenship long ago.

Second of all, all those defending the Alamo were Mexican nationals themselves! Texas was part of Mexico fighting for independence then. After winning independence it was its own nation for 10 years before joining the US.

The democrats haven’t tried to tear down the Alamo? I’m sure it’s on their to do list along with Confederate monuments, Arlington National Cemetary, Viet Nam Wall, Iwo Jima monument etc. And the police stood by.

The rural area I live in is what liberals call “diverse”-about an equal number of Hispanics and Anglos and a few Black families-all conservative. During the presidential campaign, I noticed a neighbor-who is also Hispanic-had a nice big banner on his fence by the gate that said “Hillary para Prision”-I wanted one, so I asked him where he bought it-turned out he made it himself-everyone loved it...

Publish the names and addresses of the advisory board members. Next day I guarantee you won’t hear from them. The only reason all the crap is happening is becaus we are allowing it to happen.

Ted Cruz father did not become a US citizen until 2005, Ted did not renounce his Canadian citizenship until 2015.
He is not a natural born citizen either.
Natural born citizens are naturally citizens because they only have one nationality.
