Can’t be local mercury spill if multiple reports that other Solar Observatory sites have gone dark recently:

the SOAR Observatory in Chile,
BRT Tenerife Telescope in Spain,
the Mauna Kea observatory in Hilo, Hawaii, the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope in Hawaii
and the JAT Observatory in Fariless Hills, Pennsylvania.”
Well, “the truth is out there”....somewhere.
