Horror: Five People Were Killed In A California Shooting Spree Last Night

There was another tragedy in California last night. A spree shooter shot and killed five people, including his wife, and then committed suicide. Authorities say this was not a random shooting, that all of the victims are connected with this senseless act of violence, and that the spree arose from a domestic dispute (via NBC News):

Six people, including the gunman, were dead following a shooting spree in Bakersfield on Wednesday that authorities believe was an act of domestic violence, Kern County sheriff's officials said.

It was not clear why the man went on the rampage, but there may be a connection between the shooter and the victims — all described as adults, Sheriff Donny Youngblood told reporters.

The gunman shot himself as at least one law enforcer approached him, Youngblood said.

[…]

Sheriff's officials said there were multiple crime scenes, including at the trucking business and near a gun seller called Bear Mountain Sports. The area of the shooting spree was in unincorporated Bakersfield, which is patrolled by the sheriff's department.

Youngblood said detectives believe the gun store is not connected to the spree. A victim happened to be in the area and was chased around the building before being shot, he said.

Youngblood said at least a single handgun was used in the attacks, and he did not know if other weapons were deployed.

Police said the final report in this case could take a long time, as there are 30 witnesses to this heinous crime—all of which need to be interviewed. In the meantime, brace for more unnecessary and over-the-top anti-gun rhetoric from the usual suspects.

The gunman must have thought he was in Chicago.

No. Historically many school shootings happen within a mile or so of an active drill, time after time after time. The drill is NEVER at the site of the shooting, but is close enough to give cover for a larger than usual LEO presence in the area, and ‘splain away a faster that usual (but often ineffectual) response.

Pay attention next time, (which I predict will be soon, I’ll go further out on a limb and guess Halloween) or you can dig out the historical data, unless google has Fahrenheit 404’d the articles.

Spree is NOT the correct term in THIS case.

a spell or sustained period of unrestrained activity of a particular kind.
“he went on a six-month crime spree”

“unrestrained”. Apparently he restrained himself from killing strangers.

” Authorities say this was not a random shooting, that all of the victims are connected with this senseless act of violence”

“ALL” of the victims....

“Spree” and “Rampage” are “trigger words” to HYPE the story and are total misrepresentations in THIS case.

In other words, LIES ... FAKE NEWS...

A heinous crime against the English language.

Of course they're connected by virtue of being victims.

What were they trying to say?

“They” are reporters/urinalists, so how would “they” know?

"I don’t see how killing the daughters made any sense."

I have been directly and peripherally involved in investigating a few, "crimes of passion." In some cases the children are viewed as possessions in a, "If I can't have them, she won't either." Sad. Very sad.

It is GLARINGLY obvious you did not click on the link.

You can lead a horse to data, but you can’t make him think.

Yes, people who kill themselves seem to often get a “I’ll take the kids with me” notion. Hopefully though the children don’t end up where their murderer does.

No. Historically many school shootings happen within a mile or so of an active drill, time after time after time.

Has anyone compiled any data to support your conclusion?

Good question. Not as far as I know, but several FReepers have commented on the coinky-dink.

Let’s see if anyone else has the data.

Pinging the N-JCT list for inputs, please.

Yeah but if you killed the wife, she won’t get them.

I think it is more of “If I can’t have them, no one can have them”. I had a relative like that.

No names of the perp or victims, eh?

It's not a conspiracy. The names will be released after they've been positively identified and next of kin has been notified.

The only time the cops intentionally withhold the name is when it's a fellow cop.

And, to be fair if scores of mass shooter drills are held every week, a few of them are bound to coincide in time and space with random events.

To be paranoid, the shooters find out about a drill and schedule their shootings accordingly.

To be really, really, really paranoid, both events are scheduled by the same entity.

Youngblood said detectives believe the gun store is not connected to the spree. A victim happened to be in the area and was chased around the building before being shot, he said.

Hmmmm.
Clearly the victim was trying to buy a weapon to save his own life.
He can now return in ten days, pay the fees, and get the weapon to protect his own home and life.

...wait... never mind.

“No names of the perp or victims, eh?”

Thanks. I was going to have another morning cup of coffee to see if I missed reading the name of the perp and names of the victims.
