France is famously Americas oldest ally, but more than half of French people no longer consider the United States a reliable partner, according to a survey released Wednesday.
Just 44 percent said the US was a trusted ally under President Donald Trump a 33-point plunge since the same survey was done in May 2014, when Barack Obama was in the White House.
Only 17 percent said they had a positive opinion of Trump in the IFOP poll, commissioned by the American Jewish Committee advocacy group, Frances Foundation for Political Innovation and the Sursaut think-tank collective.
Some 54 percent said they had a very bad opinion of the Republican leader.
Supporters of the far-right National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen formerly the National Front were the only group to express a more positive opinion, with 42 percent backing Trump.

You have shown your utter and distasteful IGNORANCE!
Funny thing, I feel that way about them.
I have always felt more at home in France than Britain. I found the people more welcoming and friendlier. :-)
......................................................
You at least got that right! So, after stabbing the French in the back in your prior post you now attempt to put the shoe on the other foot. Hypocrisy seems to be your name. Playing both sides of the game will get you nowhere.
Most French will treat you with respect because you are an American. That is true especially in Normandy. You are an ignoramus!
Too bad we couldnt go back & do part of WWII over, the part where we helped them & died for them.
.......................................................
There were more Frenchmen at Yorktown than there were Americans. They fought and died for us to be a Free Country.
I disagree, and will not engage in personal insults. However, it was because of French policies that led to the destruction of Weimar Germany and the rise of Hitler which led to WWII. After WW I the French would not re-schedule Germany’s war debt which was being repaid by US loans that dried up during the Great Depression. By not working with the US and satisfying their need for revenge (not only for WW I but also the Franco-Prussian War) their actions directly destabilized Germany to the point of it turning to Hitler.
I’m sure there are brave soldiers in the French military but the French government ONLY acts in its own interest such as in 1986 when we bombed Libya, the French REFUSED to let the US Air Force bombers fly over their territory en route.
My comment obviously had nothing to do with how any French person might treat me, so that remark of yours is completely irrelevant. After all we’ve done for the French, and some writer over there wants to comment about our trustworthiness as their ally? Sorry, but they deserve all the snide remarks being made about them on this thread, and I’m not sure why you picked mine to name-call me in response ... but I’m honored, so thanks!
And just why would I give a SH!T what the surrender monkey FROGS think?
The French have been nothing but ass kissing, boot licking, back stabbing, treacherous Pieces Of Sh!t since about 1919.
They truly did lose their best and most honorable in The Great War.
France is currently nothing more than another socialist SH!THOLE.
Would they like a little cheese with their WHINE?
I love France, the only place I know where I can buy a brand new Military Rifle that’s only been dropped once for ten bucks.
I don’t buy for a minute the standard stereotype that all French despise or do not trust Americans.
I’ve known quite a bit of French folks over the years, and you are right, the older ones are very appreciative of the USA.
Countrymen and villagers in Southern France are a far cry from the arrogant Parisian.
So just for the record, you think that these French people who no longer consider us a trusted ally ... are correct?
Or if not, that their expression of such mistaken sentiments is not deserving of any of the kinds of reactions being made by me or others on this thread?
Clarify if you wish, or just name call again if that’s all you’re capable of doing in response.
Yeah we only saved their tushes 3 times, WWI, WWII, and Vietnam. France can go to h__l
........................................................
I don’t think we did such a good job in Vietnam. Did you ever hear of Dien Bien Phu? May 7, 1954 the French were defeated and thousands taken prisoner died in POW camps. The French told us not to get involved in Vietnam. We wouldn’t listen and got betrayed by our own government. The John Kerry’s and Jane Fonda’s of the country delivered us to diplomatic defeat. Our soldiers, sailors, and Marines won the battles, but the Commies took victory away from us from the inside.
I lived in southern France and the countryside villagers were the most generous people ever and as long as you liked their delicious food etc they were your best friends. They were often quite poorer than people I was used to in This country, but shared far more of what they had than I was used to seeing. Genuinely nice people.
In Paris my fellow student parisians, on the other hand, in the days before gps and cell phones, loved sending tourists awry with wrong directions. Not the same at all.
The American cemeteries are under control of the United States. WE cut the grass and tend the graves. The land has been given to America in perpetuity by the French so our servicemen lie in American soil. The responsibility is ALL ours. Have you visited the WW I AND WW II cemeteries? I have! I’ve even visited our fallen in Belgium, Luxembourg and elsewhere.
If you had ever seen the thousands of French schoolchildren carrying bouquets to place on American graves, you would not be so dismissive of where they rest in peace.
Sounds like a reliable poll to me.
.........................................
It doesn’t sound reliable to me any more than all our polls that said Hillery would win! I think I know the French people better than anyone else on this thread. in fact, i’m sure I do.
A lot of Americans don’t think the French are much either.
News flash! The French have hated us for 70 years. This ain’t new.
+1
My experience also FRiend!
Thanks for sharing.
Oh my, I thought it was rather clear that I was talking about the French government and their policy where we are concerned. I stabbed no one in the back and I find your broad brush assessment of me and who I am to be rather silly.
I will thank you NOT to be words in my mouth or assume that you know something that you don’t.
Have a lovely day.
My goodness, how did I miss this nugget?
LOL, you are rather hotheaded in your defense of Europeans. They would NOT defend you to such a degree...
Once again enjoy what’s left of your day and try not to be so angry. There’s a good lad.
