it will likely to be classified as a tropical storm. Bad for sure but not anywhere near the mass destructive cat 4 type hurricane.

Sean Hannity was over hyping the storm while Rush downplayed the Bally-hoo.

These are lots of disappointed Democrats whole were hoping for mass destruction that they would blame on Trump. But they are still holding out for possible massive flooding.

does he get credit for standing on the shore and personally ordering the storm to stand down?

No, but he gets to dye his hair white and star in the new X-Men movie.

Good news on the winds, but there is still going to be a lot of water. The water can’t spread out like around Houston, the area is hilly and the water will collect into streams and turn to flash floods.

Some, not all, of the barrier islands may look hilly due to large dune fields extending all the way back from the beach to the ICW or sound, but rest assured the coastal plain of North and South Carolina is pretty darn flat. "High ground" as such is not very distinct, more like a very subtle increase in altitude, it would take a local to really know where high ground is, it doesn't stand out. You really don't encounter hills as such in either state until the "fall line" which is where there are waterfalls, and that's where the Piedmont region begins. It's also historically where the larger cities are, they grew up around the mills and factories powered by those falls.

The poor Leftists in this nation. They can’t catch a break. It’s as if they are Wilie Coyote and they bought this storm from ACME. Hoping for a calamitous Level Six, they are having a hard time coming up with a two.

I’m in Florida too and this would have me putting up shutters, testing the generator and waiting for the power to go out PRIOR to the storm hitting.

Then I’d sit on my porch

Did ya see Griff on faux this morning? He’s on a sea wall, hanging on to a chain with a dock rocking in the waves in the background. A floating dock! He’s screaming about the “structural integrity” of the dock behind him. I’m like, dude, it’s a floating dock, doing exactly what it is intended to do!

These people are such drama queens

After Katrina, I’d rather them over-hype than go the other way, but as the forecasts showed it weakening on the way in started happening, most weather entities kept it real enough - others started exaggerating more so they could continue to blame Trump - some even said how his trade wars would significantly increase the cost...now they need to kiss his ring for calming the wind and waters way down from what could have been....;-)

I live in Florida and am more than familiar with hurricanes. Rain, wind and flooding is what they do. That’s not gonna change anytime soon

Hurricanes are a good time to get rid of any bodies that may be lying about.

FWIW- I'm texting with a buddy on Oak Island that stayed. He sez it's rainy and windy. Still has power. They're 24' above sea level.

Another buddy in Pender County sez about the same, but they're more subject to flooding. He just got a 75mph gust a few minutes ago. Trees are faring well. d:^)

Coastal native plants are salt and wind hardy, it would take more than a Cat 1 to bring them down. Farther inland you start running into longleaf pine, they’re more hardy in wind than most pines but they’re still softwood and comparatively shallow rooted, in sandy soil. That’s where you’ll start seeing tree falls, and that’s where the power outages will be.
