Incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson and retiring Republican Governor Rick Scott are in a virtual tie in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Florida.
The first Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone and online survey of Likely Florida Voters finds Nelson with 45% support to Scotts 44%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

If they drilled down into these numbers I suspect the poll would show that Scott is taking a hit in SW Florida because of the red tide and its impact on business. SW Florida is a strong republican area that will have to vote for Scott in big numbers if he is going to offset liberal votes in SE Florida.
Scott has been successful at winning close elections, and contrary to some posts here, he has been a damn good governor.

IF Scott hadn’t knee-jerked anti-gun legislation AND 75,000 Puerto Ricans hadn’t landed and signed up for welfare, I’d say that Scott had a good chance to beat Nelson by 10 points. Now it will be close, and if it within the MOE, Nelson wins.

"Scott wins 58/42. This is pure bull crap. Dont listen to this stuff. It is designed to depress the Republican vote and nothing more. Nelson is drawing flies at his 'rallies.'
Scott is a popular governor and Nelson is seen as yesterday."
That's true from what I've seen, too. Several times, I've seen Republicans get 2-4 percent more votes than what we see in Rasmussen poll results shortly before elections. Of the most widely known survey companies, though, Rasmussen shows much higher rates of support for Republicans than other polling companies.
