This is only a false claim if the 3,000 figure is proved correct. In fact, it's only an estimate using very dubious statistical methods, and very likely to be proved wrong.
Because everyone knows that the computer models that came up with the figure close to 3,000 deaths are much more accurate than the actual records.

Did any of the journalists take the time to count the number of obituaries published in the local newspapers or the public records?
Did a survey of funeral homes generate supporting evidence of increased these 3000 deaths?
The local cemeteries should have had a number of new grave sites.

Sometimes that’s really necessary. I felt that way with all the Catholic bashing two weeks ago. Take a rest - it helps.
