Eminem says he felt uncomfortable with homophobic lyrics he wrote and released on his recent album, Kamikaze.
He faced criticism for his language on album track Fall while speaking about Tyler, The Creator.
Eminem says he "felt like this might be too far", in a new interview to promote the record on his own YouTube channel.
"In my quest to hurt him, I realize that I was hurting a lot of other people by saying it," says Eminem.
"It was one of the things that I kept going back to and going 'I don't feel right with this'."
Many others didn't feel right with it either.

El Hunt, a writer for NME, says it's good that Eminem has apologised, but doubts the validity of his explanation.
"If he really thought that was going too far, then he probably shouldn't have released it in the first place," El tells Newsbeat.
She's a 26-year-old gay woman and has had the same word used against her as abuse in the street.
"When you see people like Tyler, The Creator using that word it's a totally different thing, because it's about reclaiming the word," she says.
"That's their prerogative to do so, if they want to describe themselves in that way they can, because they've got control over it, it's not being used as an insult against them."
She also accuses the rapper of being selective with which offensive words he is comfortable using in his lyrics.
"If you look at Eminem's historic use of the N-word - or rather lack of use - he knows not to do that as a white rapper," she says.
"So why he's decided it's OK to say the [homophobic] F-word is beyond me.
"Anybody using that word would know that it's bad."

Marshall has always been a poser. A dorky white boy trying to act black.
Yet, he’s too afraid to grunt out the n-word as thousands of other rappers do?
One day I will depart this vale of tears without ever having heard any recordings by this person.
This is ridiculous. They’ll print and say ANY word, including the most horrible words in the world. But they call “fag” the f-word. Talk about re-defining cultural language.
Is that the banjo player from Deliverance?
His fame is from his “slim shady” character. Basically a clownish parody.
He then became “angry white guy” from Detroit, so he could have street cred.
Now he is just a middle-aged man being a total wuss while still trying to act street.
But he released it anyway. OK.
“Anybody using that word would know that it’s bad.”
Words by themselves are not “bad,
any more than guns “kill”...
People are bad, and use guns to kill people.
Bad people are killed by guns in the hands of victims,
but the victims are not bad, any more than the guns.
I still remember this joke from about 10 years ago.....
Eminem and Tiger Woods!
The number one rapper is a white guy, and the number one golfer is a black guy!
What A Country!
When I was growing up everybody used that word about everybody else whenever they didn't do things you wanted them to do. Comedian Jim Gaffigan lampooned this in his short lived TV show when he did a flashback episode to his childhood in the 70s. All the kids keep calling each other "you bundle of sticks!"
And the tallest guy in the NBA was Chinese!
Marshall Eminem Mathers hates Whites so much that he tries to pretend that he isn’t one.
Uh oh...is he still hanging around with Uncle Elton?
As long as he was “uncomfortable” doing it, it’s OK.
Eminem should be the poster child for cultural appropriation. If it weren’t for the Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, etc he’d be just another White trailer trash from the 8 Mile getting the crap beaten out of him by his mom’s boyfriends.
“The little faggot is a millionaire.”
See the little faggot with the earring and the make-up
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he’s millionaire
Who?
