2. Possible (partial) explation: US importers stocking up ahead of the Trump Tariffs.
3. Trump, despite appearances, is basically a free trade advocate and is not a fan of tariffs. He is betting the pressure on the Chinese will exceed the pressure on the U.S. and the tariffs will be short term.
4. The risk for Trump is that the Chinese will take the long view and just hang tough. I’m worried about that.
