As a large-scale military campaign in Syria's last rebel stronghold looms, Syrians on both sides of the divide are bracing for a bloody battle.
In the rebel-held province of Idlib, millions of residents are caught between the bombs of Russian and Syrian aircraft and the militants who have blocked their departure. Outside the rebel area, Syrian soldiers and local forces are gathering at the frontiers to try to ward off potential reprisals. CNN visited the country with the permission of the Syrian government.
(Snip) Armed groups in the rebel-held province -- increasingly dominated by Islamist extremists -- have since early August been arresting people who promote and pursue reconciliation and surrender agreements with the Syrian regime, according to statements from members of the opposition, the armed groups themselves and an Idlib-based activist who talked to CNN on Monday.

Maybe they should fight for their freedom and stop complaining...
Any “civilians” still in there among the ISIS fighters, are collaborators and their logistical support network.
In 1945, we did not hesitate to level Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
Tough to pick a side....
According to McCrazie in FR, those moderate islamic rebels are fighting for Jesus and Israel.
*** Isn’t this just Shia vs. Sunni? ***
No, that is propaganda you have been fed.
So, just what is it?
*** so just what is it? ***
To try to distill it into a simple answer.
It is Takfiri Salafists vs everyone.
Takfiris are Sunni radicals and suicide bombers (such as ISIL, Taleban, Boko Haram, al-Shabab, Sepah-e Sahaba, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, etc.) who are labeling Christians, Yazidis, Syrian Alawites, Hindus, Shias and even ordinary Sunni populations as kafirs or infidels before killing them.
Did you know 70% of the Syrian Army is composed of Sunnis? Bashar Assad is an Alawite, while his wife, Asma is Sunni.
Shia’s are a minority, as are Christians, Yazidis, and others.
Syria is being torn apart by $$$ given to Takfiris from outside Syria who are paid about $75 USD a month, and promises that they will be given autonomous republics.
It is more complicated than that, but the Sunni vs Shia myth is just that, a myth.
For some reason the Kurds are projected in the US as good guys, but they are evicting Christian towns, closing Christian Schools, and moving into Christian homes in Syria.
Sorry, not a good, complete, delineation of all of the factions involved in Syria.
Most seem to be Jihadis and thus assigned to be wiped out.
Do you want a book or a paragraph?
I want an understandable synopsis of the situation, including an annotated list of the perps/involved parties and their alliances.
5 paragraphs will suffice.
