At least 12 people have died in the northern Philippines in the wake of the 560-mile wide Super-Typhoon Mangkhut. Most of them died in landslides or inside houses that got pummelled by the storm's fierce winds and rain. Presidential adviser Francis Tolentino said the dead included an infant and another child who were among four people killed in a landslide in Nueva Vizcaya, one of several provinces battered by the typhoon today.
Mr Tolentino also said that at least two other people are missing and the death toll could climb to 16 once other casualty reports are verified.

For pennies on the dollar what the lowest-paid person here makes.
They will blame the Philippine deaths on President Trump. Counting . . .
Thats 12,000 in Puerto Rican.
“Americans don’t realize how good they have it. “
Don’t be insulting. Of course, we know how good we have it. It is why we are trying to keep it, moron.
Typhoons are so common in the Phillippines that they respond to it like the Brits acted normally and nonchalantly during the German bombing.
Uh, don’t they mean Trump ordered 12,000 killed in the Philippines by a typhoon controlled by the Israelis?
The country has the sad misfortune to be in the path of Typhoons all year round.
Lol! Classic!
True.
Typhoons are simply a seasonal fact, and indeed especially so in Northern Luzon, thats the high-traffic zone for Asian typhoons. The US (all of it) gets maybe a hurricane a year, on average. the Philippines gets a half-dozen on average, most hitting right where this one is.
The meteorological analysis and prediction of tropical storms actually began in the Philippines, at the Jesuit observatory of Manila in the 19th century. The Jesuit scientists derived the idea of storm tracks and prediction using barometric readings over time, triangulating from different observation stations. Indeed, they invented the whole weather prediction game.
We still have (in the old house in Manila) passed on from my grandfather, one of the original Jesuit barometers, a great brass thing made in Belgium, configured and calibrated in the Jesuit observatory to track tropical storms, inscribed with the procedure to use it, with advice on the required method and frequency of readings, and how changes in pressure over time indicated the storm path, distance and expected intensity. It is quite accurate, as these things can be if set up for a particular location.
Have the Major news networks blamed President Trump for this typhoon yet.
Official minimum wage is 300 pesos per day (about $5.60). Lots of construction workers can be hired for 100-200 pesos per day outside major cities. In addition, you do generally have to feed them rice 1-2 times per day, Waiting for good enough internet outside major cities. And for places with low chances of typhoon.
Hard to accumulate enough wealth to build typhoon-proof house or apartments on what’s left after American living expenses. Not possible on a typical Philippine salary.
The grandfather choose to stay home to prevent looting of their sari sari store. The land line in the store still worked, so they were able to check in on him. His son went yesterday to check up on him and bring food.
The family is planning to return to the house / store today to start the clean up.
I'll open up skype and see what their status is now.
It didn’t happen in the U.S., and it didn’t happen under Trump, so, the number of dead will remain what the official government figure ends up being; so, the computer model used in P.R. to arrive at the phony huge number won’t be needed in the Philippines.
Sigh. Let me guess: the media will say “Trump’s fault.”
Are you sure it wasnt, like, 10,000 or something? That storm sounds _super_ bad. Way worse than what hit Puerto Rico, Im thinking...
Well played! :-D
Wasn't referring to everyone, just the majority. Having taught high school for MANY years, almost all of the students taught over many years have absolutely NO clue about how the rest of the world lives. Name-calling will get you nowhere. Try to come up with an intellectual response instead of a grade school reply.
Yes, so I’ve heard from several sources. Should have said “Many” Americans don’t know how good they have it. Grew up in Southeast Asia, so have a clear picture of how they live and additional sources through the years keep me updated.
