Friends and family, people so spread out now it is easy way to stay connected. That is why people went there to begin with, why people are still there.
Facebook wants to believe they are some news agency or social conscience and maybe to a few misguided people they are, I don’t see it. Majority of the users think it is a joke that FB sees itself as some important beacon to guide the way.
Most see FB as replacing the old porches people hung out on greeting people that went by and enjoying a visit with friends and family.
I would have three pages, social, religious,. and political. The political would be free speech and open forum.

An anecdote: supposedly, there was a lecture in a linguistics class, where the professor was droning on and ON about how all languages have affirmative statements, and all languages have negative statements, and two negatives make a positive, and a negative and positive make a negative, but there were NO examples where two positive statements made a negative.
Just then a bored voice piped up from the back of the lecture hall:
"...yeah, *RIGHT*."

I work in IT. I know many ways to take down a computer system. I am sure if they are parsing the memes for phrases and they didn’t build it right, it would be hackable.

Well seems to me that fb takes the metrics of the porch sitters to make themselves social media Nazis who will decide who is worthy to be on their platform and who isn’t.
So all those folks who just want to keep up with their folks feed the machine.
You could say the same about people who live in solid liberal areas. By working there, owning real estate, paying taxes, and otherwise contributing to the area are they not supporting liberals in some way?
If someone had a site that compared I would switch, until then I am not likely to. I have signed up on sites that people say are conservative fb type sites. There is no one there. Very few groups to join for recipes, or horse related, or anything including politics. There are a few pages there but no one posts. Like a ghost town.
I do think someone will get it right and fb will empty out like myspace did. Has not happened yet though.
