That says it all right there. It's double-speak for, "I lied, and there is no source".

IOW, if he revealed his source, it would turn out to be a fake, and the "fake source" would immediately be killed along with the phony story. It's not only the fake source and the fake story that would be "ended" or "killed", but Woodward's credibility, whatever there was of it, would immediately be killed too. Therefore, he's coming up with a fake defense in order not to be exposed as a liar and just another fabricator of anti-Trump stories.
