~ Happy 71th Birthday, United States Air Force ~
~ September 18, 2018 ~
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
The United States Air Force became a separate military service on September 18, 1947, with the implementation of the National Security Act of 1947. The Act created the National Military Establishment, later renamed the United States Department of Defense, which was composed of three branches, the Army, Navy and a newly created Air Force. Prior to 1947, the responsibility for military aviation was divided between the Army (for land-based operations) and the Navy, for sea-based operations from aircraft carrier and amphibious aircraft.
Curtiss JNB-4 Jenny
The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the predecessor of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) from 1926-41, which in turn was the forerunner of todays U.S. Air Force (USAF), established on June 21, 1947. Although abolished as an organization in 1941, it existed as a branch subordinate to the USAAF from 1941-47. The Air Corps was created from the Air Service in 1926 largely as a compromise between advocates of a separate air arm and those of the command structure of the United States Army who viewed the aviation arm as an auxiliary branch to support the ground forces. Although its members worked to promote the concept of airpower and an autonomous air force between 1926 and 1941, as a branch of the Army similar to the Signal Corps or Quartermaster Corps, its primary purpose by Army policy remained support. Much as it did a quarter century before, the United States immediately demobilized its armed forces after World War II. Based on the AAF's wartime achievements and future potential, however, the U.S. Air Force won its independence as a full partner with the Army and the Navy on September 18, 1947.
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

Engraved on His Hands
September 18, 2018
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.
Isaiah 49:16
In Charles Spurgeons many years at his London church during the 1800s, he loved to preach on the riches of Isaiah 49:16, which says that God engraves us on the palms of His hands. He said, Such a text as this is to be preached hundreds of times! This thought is so precious that we can run over it in our minds again and again.
Spurgeon makes the wonderful connection between this promise of the Lord to His people, the Israelites, and Gods Son, Jesus, on the cross as He died for us. Spurgeon asked, What are these wounds in Your hands? . . . The engravers tool was the nail, backed by the hammer. He must be fastened to the Cross, that His people might be truly engraved on the palms of His hands. As the Lord promised to engrave His people on His palms, so Jesus stretched out His arms on the cross, receiving the nails in His hands so we could be free of our sins.
If and when were tempted to think that God has forgotten us, we only need to look at our palms and remember Gods promise. He has put indelible marks on His hands for us; He loves us that much.
Lord God, how vast is Your love for me! You keep me ever before You. I know Youll never leave me, and Im grateful.
The Lord engraves us on the palms of His hands.

Our God remembers us and keeps His promises. A study of the word remember bears this out. Throughout the Old Testament we read passages about how God remembered specific people (Genesis 8:1; 19:29; 30:22). Still other passages recall what He has done for us all. The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God (Psalm 98:23). God specifically worked in the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses to fulfill His promises, for He remembers His covenant (see Psalm 105.)
Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of Gods Old Testament promises. We see this in the words of Zechariahs song (Luke 1:6773): Praise to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He remember[ed] his holy covenant (vv. 68, 72).
God hasnt forgotten us. He is with us through the Spirit (John 14:26). And one day He will return to establish a new heaven and earth where He will dwell with us forever (Revelation 21:13).
In what ways has God shown you He hasnt forgotten you?

Lots of practicing bombing around here as fly boys put out fires. Not as much smoke but the mornings smell like wet ashes and burn the eyes. Need some snow here!

OMG! I was in the Air Force in 72’, the 25th year anniversary. Good times. Phucked up organization. But I’m very proud of my service, more than my BA in something stupid.
