Back in 2000, I was a candidate for State House in New Mexico. One morning, my wife and I got up with intentions of fixing our swamp cooler. I got up on the roof, she was watching from the back yard, responding to requests, etc. as I worked on the cooler. At one point, I hear her ca,, out.

"What is this?"

I looked down from the roof of the house to see her holding a big one gallon zip lock bag stuffed full with green stuff. My first thought, being in New Mexico, was that it was someone's roasted green chile stash.

I climbed down off the ladder and walked towards her. I was still a few feet away when the smell wafted over and I knew it was NOT green chile stash. Turned out to be a big bag of pot that had apparently been dropped in our yard while the carrier ran from police.

In any event, I called dispatch and they sent an officer down to my place. When he arrived, I grabbed the bag, handed it to him and explained how we came into possession of it. His response was simple and quick:

"Ok, thank you for reporting it. We'll take care of it." He shook my hand, turned around, placed the bag in the trunk of his cruiser and left. No report. No questions. No nothing.

The saying is true - cops always have the best stuff.
