Grassley is giving up too much. He should have held the vote this week. No way should he allow closed hearings.

Politically, I believe he may be playing this perfectly.

"We have no power to commandeer an Executive Branch agency into conducting our due diligence."

Grassley has his detractors here on FR, but I always enjoy reading a letter where a Republican senator with no legal background schools a leftist lawyer on Constitutional law.

But having a closed hearing is a win-win for our side. It forces her to appear, there is no excuse left for her not to show. And second, it cuts the Dems off at the knees in making this hearing a national spectacle (which you know they will do if its public with all the media involved).

If she doesn't show it looks bad for the Dems ... if she does then she has to answer a lot of very difficult questions and the likelihood that she will be exposed as a total liar is high. You know the more astute Pubs will be armed with her FB quotes, her relationship to the Soros lawyer, etc. She will be shown to be a political hack whose motivations are political.

For once, the Pubs have backed the Dems into a corner ... they are in a lose-lose situation here. They lose if she bails, they lose if she comes.

Perhaps I'm missing something ... but I see this as a win-win for us.

My big thing is my confidence in the depravity of the Dems to produce another accuser this weekend as a last ditch effort. Then they can claim "one woman does not make a pattern of behavior ... but two makes it more likely these accounts are true." And I'm guessing James Carville is as we speak flashing $100s in every trailer park looking for that second witness.

Grassley knows that Ford wont show up and he's giving Kavanaugh a chance to say what he wants and clear his name.

He11, Kavanaugh could say that he thinks that at that party he remembers seeing a guy that looked like a middle aged Chuck Schumer forceably sodomizing the Hispanic yardman who worked for the owners of the house, and in this environment, no one could refute him.

I've said all along, Grassley has made a career out of being underestimated.

Eacylt. Why do we give these republicans power if they give it away at the first opportunity?

Why no closed hearings? Are you sure you want the Kabuki theatre? Do you want to see the Rats play all self righteous and try to find more ways to delay the vote? Closed session will still be “on the record” for later prosecution if it comes to that.

A disturbed individual can stop congressional business with an unsubstantiated accusation. What has this nation come to?

There needs to be severe consequences for anyone doing this. They had better have solid evidence before trying anything like this. This just asking for more of the same when they get to gofundme and receive huge amounts of cash.
