I know a lot of well meaning, loyal Democrats for generations, who are horrified by what is happening in their party, but they stick to what they perceive as their fellow travelers.

Defending their pocketbooks. I had an uncle like that. Detested everything the Dems stood for, but voted for them year after year, because his union told him that was how to secure his job, get raises, and protect his pension.

not all of the horrifieds are sticking though ... i know some who are walking away ... the horrors of the New Democratic Socialist Party became just too horrific to stay ...

I was never a liberal, but before 9/11 I voted Democrat. After 9/11 I saw how full of CRAP the Democrat party was. I saw Hillary Clinton snearing at Giuliani after he did an Amazing job. I saw George Bush step up and I thanked God that Gore was not POTUS. I saw how the Liberals put power and control over what was best for our country. It opened my eyes to the Lefts lies. How anyone could still vote Democrat after 9/12 is beyond me.
