The United Farm Workers and Cesar Chaves were responsible for the elimination of the Bracero Program that provided passes for Mexican farm workers. The claim was that the Mexicans were taking American jobs. So, the Braceros were kicked out and within two years it was obvious the UFW could not take up the slack. The farmers, not being dummies, introduced many farm machinery labor saving devices, and many hybrids that compressed the harvest season. The farm laborers that remain today are better equipped and better trained, and certainly they are better educated. They know the UFW bosses skim the cream and could care less about the workers. It’s a different world.

If you check the communist connections of many of the UFW’s original leaders, you’ll find out who was the hidden hand behind a lot of their propaganda efforts.

Chavez was actually more honest as a leader than most of his key people including Dolores Huerta and (I believe) Velasquez or something like that.

You can find a lot on Huerta at www.keywiki.org. And if the name Bert Corona comes up, just look for him under the Communist Party USA or his own page.
