McConnell: Democrats waited until 11th hour
CNN ^ | September 18, 2018 | David Axelrod

the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The cause of McConnell's ire was the late-breaking allegation from Christine Blasey Ford, a research psychologist, that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers, a charge that threatens to upend a confirmation which seemed assured just days ago. McConnell, who is determined to deliver his second conservative Supreme Court justice in two years, now must navigate a treacherous pass. On the one hand, the steely Republican leader is determined to act as quickly to confirm Kavanaugh as he was to delay and destroy Garland's nomination. McConnell knows that, even with one of the most favorable Senate maps any party ever has enjoyed, the antics of President Donald Trump have helped put the GOP's narrow, two-vote margin in jeopardy. He does not want to risk allowing the Senate vote to lapse until after an election Republicans may lose.

I give McConnell A+ for handling the Merrick Garland nomination.

I do to. I also think he’s done some good work with the other judge nominations.

There are many vacancies, and there are many people nominated at the present time though.

Where’s the wall Mitch?

Ryan, where’s the wall?

Somebody tell the GOP like him:

hello, urgent message to GOP, the Dems are evil socialists who are anti-American and will place you in a gulag if they win in 2020.

McConnell needs to be driven out of the senate. He’s a farking disgrace. The only reason why those pieces of living sh!t, the repubikans, steeled their spines against Garland is because they KNEW Scalia was pillowed. Offed.

On the one hand, the steely Republican leader is determined to act as quickly to confirm Kavanaugh as he was to delay and destroy Garland's nomination.

Not at all similar. He didn't "destroy" Garland's nomination with extremely vague allegations of sexual misconduct when he was in high school, he blocked it. "Elections have consequences"-Barack Obama.

Dear CNN, no the GOP Senate majority is not in jeopardy.

If you think the democrats antics vis-a-vis Kavanaugh are not going to serve as motivation to the GOP voter, then you are deluded.

True. But if the GOP keeps bending over backwards so to not
alienate female voters regarding the Kavanaugh accuser, they
will soon begin to alienate the bass voters such as myself.
Very soon, Grassley will have to make a choice.
Offend a portion of female voters or offend a large portion of
GOP base voters.

Is he really surprised and upset that the dems waited ‘til the last minute to drop a dirty trick bomb? Has he paid any attention to politics over the last 25 years? It’s like getting mad that a shark bit you. It’s what they do!

“Very soon, Grassley will have to make a choice”

It’s too late. Grassley has let the Soros/o’muslim/dnc/rat circus get out of hand. They’re in their offices, etc. It’s a farging disgrace.

Much as I deplore the cowardice of the GOPe, the alternative is so much worse.

If you can’t vote for a party, at least vote against a party. I’ve voted for very few Republicans, but I’ve voted against many Democrats.

I went into the 2016 election sure that I would vote against Hitlery. But I ended up voting for Trump.

MAGA!

This fight against Kavanaugh is looking like east coast-west coast lunatics doing everything they can to abolish our government. If establishment ‘pubs stop enabling this radical fringe that’s been ceded way too much power, I’d think it will be a real help for Senators representing the rest of the country.

Two defining moments have arisen this week:

1) The GOP has to get Kananaugh to the finish line without further delays and perversion of the approval process. Permitting Democrats to derail the nomination of a highly qualified and honorable candidate will set a terrible precedent. The GOP often caves, but caving on this matter would be disastrous for them and the country.

2) Trump drew a red line when he ordered the immediate release of the declassified documents. Defying that order is subversion that cannot be tolerated. To do so would be tantamount to approving the existence of a fourth branch of government.

Failure in either case is not an option. Neither the GOP controlled senate or the president can afford this kind of devastating loss of credibility. Both must stand tall and do what’s right. There is no other alternative.
