Trump jumps into the Nevada Senate race — ground zero in the midterm fight over Obamacare

President Donald Trump heads to Nevada, where the Affordable Care Act is perhaps the most important issue in a pivotal Senate race.

GOP Sen. Dean Heller, who voted for a bill to repeal parts of Obamacare after pledging to oppose an earlier version, is facing a tough re-election bid against Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen.

Nevada saw a massive decrease in its uninsured rate after it expanded Medicaid under the health care law.

As he pushed Senate Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act last year, President Donald Trump zeroed in on Sen. Dean Heller.

When the president had lunch with GOP senators in July 2017, the Nevada lawmaker sat directly to his right. A month earlier, Heller had joined Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval in pledging to oppose a GOP version of Obamacare repeal that would phase out Medicaid expansion. That piece of the 2010 health-care law boosted insurance coverage for low-income people in Nevada.

Trump said he "worried" about Heller's vote and nudged him to support repeal. The president turned to Heller and quipped, "He wants to remain a senator, doesn't he?" Days later, Heller supported a different Republican proposal to roll back large parts of the health-care law, which failed on the Senate floor by only one vote.

I want Heller reelected, but has he got a noteworthy legislative record past 5 years?

Probably too many Harry Reid fans in Vegas?

I am in Nevada, curious to see how Never Trumper Heller, Open Borders Heller, pro-ObamaCare Heller, gets nod from President Trump. Heck, Trump made Cruz grovel publicly for his support. Heller cannot win without Trump. I’m not sure if I’ll even vote for him with Trump’s endorsement. At the end of the day Heller stands almost 180-degrees different on every issue that I voted for Trump on.

Trump is an indefatigable, thoroughbred race horse.

Whatta daily pace under unwithering pressure.

I am registered to vote in Nevada. Now a California resident. Do you think it’s worth a 200 mile drive to vote for Heller?

When it comes down to a Rat versus a RINO in a General Election, all that matters is Control of Congress.

The time for culling the GOP Herd is during the Primary. We need every Republican we can get in the House and the Senate or EVERYTHING we have gotten done with POTUS Trump is over, which means The Republic is over.

Hold your nose, grit your teeth and Vote for the Republican, whether you like them or not.

I just moved to Las Vegas this year... all registered and ready. All I know so far is that my neighbor, Aaron Ford, is running for AG... he’s a leftist creep.

And 2 years of NOTHING from the GOP on it.

Heller stands almost 180-degrees different on every issue that I voted for Trump on.

Sorry, you're just plain wrong. According to 538.com, Heller votes Trump's way 92.2% of the time.

71/77 votes

The only non-Trump votes:
May 4, 2017 - The 2017 fiscal year appropriations bill (79-18... all 18 were Rs, with Heller. Every Dem approved as Trump wanted)
June 13, 2017 - Opposing the sale of some arms to Saudi Arabia (47-53... Heller joins the Ds, but the Rs still won, as 5 Ds joined)
June 14, 2017 - Imposing sanctions on Russia (97-2... Heller was in the 97)
July 26, 2017 - Repealing major parts of the Affordable Care Act, with a transition period for replacement (45-55... 7 Rs crossed)
July 27, 2017 - Imposing sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea (98-2... Heller in the 98)
Jan. 18, 2018 - Reauthorizing warrantless spying program as part of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (65-34... Heller and 6 other Rs crossed, didn't matter, Trump won as 21 Ds joined.)

I see only 2 real "betrayals" in there, out of 77 votes (since the other 4 were clearly decided anyway).

So, aside from McCain's ObamaCare debacle, your big issue is making sure that Trump isn't restricted in sending arms to Saudi Arabia?

Repealing the individual mandate is far from everything, but it is far from “nothing.”
