Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) suggested Friday that he could keep lawmakers in Washington until the end of October if Democrats seek to slow or block the confirmation of President Trump's judicial nominees.
McConnell said the Senate would soon wrap up some of its major to-do items, like funding the government and confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
But he hinted that it would be up to Democrats to strike a deal on nominations if they want to leave town before the end of October.
"Our friends on the other side who have a number of incumbents running for reelection this year are going to want to ... recess," McConnell said at the Values Voter Summit, an annual gathering of conservatives in Washington.
"It won’t surprise you that I’m making my list and checking it twice," McConnell said. "That, my friends, is how we’re dealing with obstruction." If McConnell were to hold the Senate in session at the end of October, it could keep more than two dozen Democrats who are defending their seats this year off the campaign trail in the final days before voters head to the polls.
The Kentucky Republican's suggestion comes after he canceled most of the chamber's August recess, holding senators back from hitting the campaign trail.

Gee what a disaster. The politicians wouldn’t be able to go out and tell all the lies they need to get reelected.
Yawn. A real threat would be to recess the Senate and allow POTUS to make recess appointments.
My understanding is that McConnell’s RINO tendencies are tolerated for one reason only - he would make sure the Trump judicial appointees got the vote. Nothing more.
And that is how Elaine Chao got to be Secretary of Transportation, as an olive branch to Mitch.
Mitch and Lindsay have greatly improved their performance in recent months.
I hope McConnell will finally earn his paycheck and do this.

Like the dems aren’t so committed to this that they would stay in session indefinitely until the election. Hell they would filibuster nonstop until then standing on their head. The turtle lost and now Trump has backed down on declassification. Sucks, but facts are facts.

I had thought that something like that was a possibility. There are some Senate Democrat who desperately need to go home to campaign and this could cripple their efforts for reelection if they have to stay until the end of October. The message is clear. If you defeat Kavanaugh, cancel your flights home.
It's interesting, actually. A whole lot of women aren't following FemNazi marching orders. They're seeing right through the accuser.
Such an act would disproportionately benefit Republican Challengers to existing Dim seats.
