Actually the best path is for Trump to call up Sessions and demand the Sessions fire RR immediately or Trump will fire them both.

RR trying to save his ass: “The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said in a statement. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Will people still defend Jeff Sessions? Trump deserves blames for not firing Rosenstein sooner.

Agreed. And I hope no one suggests that President Trump just exercise "nth dimension chess" regarding this. This is the chief of the national law enforcement agency trying to recruit people to help remove President Trump, and being willing to clandestinely record conversations with President Trump.

My understanding is that there are about a dozen senior position at the Justice department that are unfilled. About half are in the line that fills the Acting AG position. So, get rid of Sessions and Rosenstein and you are very far down the list. But, if that effective Acting AG is any good, they would have to be better than Sessions or Rosenstein have been in practice. There could be method to their madness in leaving 6-7 top positions open, as long as they know and have confidence in the next person in line.

Rosenstein should be given 10 min to explain, then, unless he pulls a convincing rabbit out of his a$$, he should be fired. Even if this is factually inaccurate, if the NYT can find that many of his staffers who would repeat this general drift, he has to go, along with his staff.
