Christine Blasey Ford, accuser of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, agrees to Senate testimony about sexual assault claim

  • Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor at the center of a sexual assault accusation against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, has agreed to testify to representatives of the Senate Judiciary Committee sometime next week.
  • The details have yet to be worked out, but it could mean the end of a lengthy and emotional political fight that has stalled Kavanaugh's nomination.

    Below is the full text of the letter Ford's legal team sent to Senate staffers: [From the bottom of the link]

    Dr. Ford accepts the Committee's request to provide her first-hand knowledge of Brett Kavanaugh's sexual misconduct next week. Although many aspects of the proposal you provided via email, on September 21, 2018, at 2:33 pm, are fundamentally inconsistent with the Committee's promise of a fair, impartial investigation into her allegations, and we are disappointed with the leaks and the bullying that have tainted the process, we are hopeful that we can reach agreement on details. Can we set up a time for later this afternoon to continue our negotiations?

    Sincerely,

    Debra S. Katz

I’m skeptical. Something will happen. Ford gets sick or wet feet at the last minute. Changing the rules at the last minute. Screaming female hordes in pink pussy caps will disrupt the proceedings. Maybe even bomb threats. Ford doesn’t want to talk under oath.

So she agrees and then lets it go on and on so as not to get the vote in. THAT is THEIR PLOY.

I would not cave anymore to these broads.

Or to put it another way,,,, she/they did NOT accept the committees demands. They simply reissued their demands.

I don’t think Anita Hill would have gotten away with that in the internet age. Also, Republicans — for all their flaws — have had been much more politically astute and organized since the 1994 elections. They’ve actually eclipsed the Democrats in this area, in many ways.

She’ll be carefully and extensively coached/prepared.

https://apps.americanbar.org/litigation/committees/trialpractice/articles/121311-ethics-preparation-witnesses-deposition-trial.html

In preparing a witness to testify, a lawyer may invite the witness to provide truthful testimony favorable to the lawyer’s client. Preparation consistent with the rule of this Section may include the following:

discussing the role of the witness and effective courtroom demeanor;
discussing the witness’s recollection and probable testimony;
revealing to the witness other testimony or evidence that will be presented and asking the witness to reconsider the witness’s recollection or recounting of events in that light;
discussing the applicability of law to the events in issue;
reviewing the factual context into which the witness’s observations or opinions will fit;
reviewing documents or other physical evidence that may be introduced; and
discussing probable lines of cross-examination that the witness should be prepared to meet.

Witness preparation may include rehearsal of testimony. A lawyer may suggest [a] choice of words that might be employed to make the witness’s meaning clear. However, a lawyer may not assist the witness to testify falsely as to a material fact.

What’s the difference between Thursday or Monday. This creature has already wasted enough of everyone’s time. Testify (or not) Monday. Vote right after.

Have they accepted her “acceptance”? They need a clarification ASAP or they need to pull the plug. The White House is right, this is just to prevent the Monday vote. This is B.S.

I think they will run with this as long as they are winning and they are winning on many fronts: budget with no wall, special prosecutor and now supreme court nominee.

That may be.

I am just always remembering when ever Bush did something clearly in the wrong- There were all these people who would try to convince us how brilliant it was. It is all part of this brilliant strategy... Don’t you see! Sometimes a turd is just a turd.

The Dems say this standoff is helping them. They point to the polls. But the polls are transitory. I think this may be motivating the GOP more than it does the Dems. The Dems were already motivated.

I hate to burst your bubble, ‘cause I know you are looking forward to a great show, but I don’t think Christine is ever going to show up. This is all about delaying so bus loads of protesters have time to get to DC to intimidate the Senate when it votes.
