Grassley’s Kangaroo Court
National Review ^ | September 22, 2018 6:00 AM | ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

Posted on 09/22/2018 3:52:51 PM PDT by Hojczyk

It’s a kangaroo court.

Understand, this is not about Christine Blasey Ford. She’s a tool — a quite willing tool, but a tool all the same. This is not even about the eminently qualified federal circuit-court judge Brett Kavanaugh — it would be no different regardless of which nominee President Trump selected in consultation with White House counsel Don McGahn, the Federalist Society, the Heritage Foundation, and the rest of the originalist, conservative legal community come of age. Democrats do not want a model of constitutional fidelity and judicial restraint elevated to the Supreme Court. End of story.

And who can blame them? Republicans did not want the eminently qualified federal circuit-court judge Merrick Garland to be elevated to the Supreme Court.

But the Left has turned the High Court into an über-legislature for imposing on the country the social-justice-warrior policy agenda that they cannot ride to victory at the ballot box. The Supreme Court is arguably just as vital to them as winning the White House, because justices often outlast even two-term presidencies by a factor of four or five.

Democrats are willing to use any tactics to block conservatives from the Supreme Court and seat their own ideologues. The question is not “Fair or unfair?” It’s “Will it work?” Republicans always seem flat-footed in response because they underestimate how far Democrats are willing to go to win, how willing they are to destroy people’s reputations if that’s what it takes. Republicans keep thinking it’s 1987 and the Bork debacle was the worst of it; in reality, we’re 30 years on, and the Bork debacle was just the beginning of it.

Maybe Chairman Grassley and his colleagues will figure that out on Thursday. Or is it the next Thursday? Or the day after the midterms? . . .

If the Kavanaugh nomination is somehow blocked in 2018, I can easily see an opportunity to put the perfect nominee on the court who would be able to serve until the end of the next Senate term on December 31st, 2020: JEFF SESSIONS

Uh, no thanks to the Deep State Insurance Policy.

Why are liberals in government, media and on main street so concerned about a decent man becoming a Supreme Court Justice?:

Congress, Presidents, governors, legislatures, IRS/FBI/DOJ and all others set up potential possible judicial decisions, which are ALL Decided by the Supreme Court.

By one vote.

The federal circuit judges (HI,OR,CA especially), and the Supreme Court 5-4 decisions totally run our religious practice, life and death such as abortion, immigration and our borders, our sex lives and definitions of gender, and all types of private and public activity and taxation.

Thanks to frank ballenger for clarifying the America, we have lived in since Ike. America run by thugs/judges in black robes, who were not elected.

I think Grassley is not in a position to call a vote for the Judiciary Committee. He has to look at the floor vote.

Flake has stated he will vote no if she is not heard.

There are Democrats running in Red States who previously stated they would vote Yes but that was before there was a sex assault allegation.

If we are going to vent against someone, it should be against Flake, not Grassley. Flake must be able to see the disengenuous of this scheme.

Speaking of Grassley, haven’t heard a peep from the old coot since the lesbish Katz smacked him down and took his lunch money at 2:30 pm today.

The other side’s desperation was beyond extreme - a confirmation cements a constitutional majority for at least a decade or more. We should have seen this coming - they were not just going to allow this to happen simply because they didn’t have the votes on paper.

There was a lot of wisdom in hindsight with the idea of appointing a woman as well that had nothing to do with identity politics but to prevent this kind of a destructive narrative. They almost certainly would have tried something else, but it is unlikely to have the impact of alleged rape the Democrats are using simply because the nominee was man - and now because of the optics of the committee membership being all male they are claiming the “11 Republican men” are trying to protect a predator. I’m seeing a lot of politically poor decisions made long before this hearing that are allowing the Democrats openings to push these phony narratives.

I hope you are correct. The Republicans may end up winning in spite of themselves.

Agree - everyone tweet him the article.

Not just him, but Flake and the other committee members as well.

I do believe it’s time for a refresher course.Mp>Your comments are a breath of fresh air. And no Reconstruction bs either. Treat the conquered lib/commie states as provinces, subject to the dictates of the Trump administration.

Yep, no Republican women on the committee. Why? Would have been perfect in this scenario for them to be able to ask the female accuser questions.

“If we are going to vent against someone, it should be against Flake, not Grassley.”

Grassley is the Chairman. He knows Flake is a loser. He should just send the nomination up to the full senate without a recommendation by the Committee. Just have an up-or-down vote in the full senate, and have everyone on record. Pence can break a tie. Any Repubs who vote NO will not be re-elected when there term is up.

Stop this charade.

I must repeat:
When Dems and the media are dead set against you with total bias and prejudice, you cannot win favor by doing gentlemanly or chivalrous or kind actions. They will never accept any concession as enough and shake hands. They will never, ever pat you on the head and say Good Boy and give you a delicious dog biscuit treat. They will still say rapist and sex offender joins court with Thomas, the other sex offender. And GOP hates women so vote Dem, women!

Just vote Kavanaugh in. Don’t wait for more tricks and Lucy pulling away the football in Peanuts. Enough.

Republicans always want to be fair, Democrats want to win. It’s time for the Republicans to adopt the Democrats’ strategy.

Please do some simple fact-checking and realize how stupid that statement is.

Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court in April 2017 -- and began sitting in on court cases ABOUT TEN DAYS LATER.

On this one, Tucker Carlson is utterly retarded. He makes Maxine Waters look like a brain surgeon.
